The Wii's library is full of these. (See Pirates Plund-ARRR!!) I have almost 300 Wii games now, and I will have to post a picture of my collection at some point.Cronozilla wrote:So, if there are super hidden gems, I'd like to hear about them.
Too early to start talking about rare/valuable Wii games?

Those are all solid games. The Munchables was created by the team behind Katamri Damacy, and it plays very similarly to that game. Let's Tap is very unique, and it was developed by Yuji Naka, the former head of Sega's Sonic Team (back when they were, you know, really good).

I wouldn't differentiate into what's worth owning. I understand what you mean, but for purposes of numbers as long as it's a retail title then it counts for that purpose. There are quite a few "shovelware" titles that are fairly rare on the Wii (and Wii U).ejamer wrote:I'm sitting at just over 180 retail Wii games, but not all of those games are really worth owning. (Kids games, games that were cheap and just not worth selling/trading after trying.) I seem to recall counting up the games that I'd actually like to keep and ending in the 120 range.
Pretty crazy what 8 years of collecting will do. The scary part is that I planned to top out and stop... but already own almost 30 Wii U games too. The bright side is that Wii U isn't going to get 180 games released, so I won't have to worry about getting carried away.
I keep telling myself I'm going to pick up a few more that I've been on the lookout for, but I keep adding to them.
As far as the Wii U, I think I'm around 85 retail titles already. I had been picking up most first party games and then when titles were clearanced out I would grab those. Then I noticed quite a few were going OOP and so I kept my eyes open for new copies of those and grabbed those before they were hard to get. Before I realized it I had quite a lot and made the decision I may as well go for a full set. It shouldn't be too hard with limited 3rd Party Support.

I'd like to recommend Fishing Resort as well while we are on the subject of Yuji Naka.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Thanks!retrosportsgamer wrote:Good post in the other Wii thread there prfsnl:

I agree that the Wii's library is just filled with hidden gems, games, what have you.
A Boy and His Blob
Arc Rise Fantasia
Batman: The Brave and the Bold
Battalion Wars 2
Blast Works
Boom Blox/Boom Blox: Bash Party
The Calling
Castle of Shikigami III
Data East Arcade Classics
Dawn of Discovery
de Blob
Deadly Creatures
Elebits
Endless Ocean
FF Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon
Fishing Resort
Guilty Party
Kid Adventures: Sky Captain
Klonoa
Kororinpa: Marble Mania
Let's Tap
Marble Saga: Kororinpa
Mushroom Men
Nitrobike (Developed by Left Field Productions of Excitebike 64 fame)
Pirates Plundarrr
The Sky Crawlers
Tornado Outbreak (has a PS3 release but it's .89 cents at GAMESTOP!)
Trackmania: Build to Race (the only console release I am aware of and it's excellent)
These are all pretty much games that I don't believe have seen releases outside of the Wii. A lot of these are overlooked; however, I don't know how "super" hidden they are. I just based this off my list of games from Amazon. I ignored some of the more common hidden gems as well as multi-platform games. Keep in mind, there were actually times that the Wii had the superior version of a multi-platform game.

What makes Wii collecting fun, for me, is that there is so many hidden gems and most are either somewhat hard to find to actually being rare.FerretGamer wrote:I'd like to recommend Fishing Resort as well while we are on the subject of Yuji Naka.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Thanks!retrosportsgamer wrote:Good post in the other Wii thread there prfsnl:

It's kinda said that a lot of these games were overlooked. I think at first a lot of gamers that aren't intimately familiar with the Wii library think the Wii library is sub-par and only consists of shovel ware, poor ports that forced "waggle", etc... Once you really take a look you find that there are really a ton of unique experiences hidden throughout the library and that the library is much more robust than one would think initially.

Yea, I'm glad I found this site. I'm a member of a few forums, but it's nice that there is an active community here that are collecting and discussing the Wii already. Hopefully as more collectors dig into the library they will realize there is so much more to it than they originally thought.

Re: Too early to start talking about rare/valuable Wii games
It's fun to read back on this topic. We've been tracking the trend for Wii games since 2012, which is really cool. This topic will probably be used as a reference 10 years from now.retrosportsgamer wrote:We have 108 pages backing this up (for all of us - not just you)prfsnl_gmr wrote:Spidrmnky wrote:I think at first a lot of gamers that aren't intimately familiar with the Wii library think the Wii library is sub-par and only consists of shovel ware, poor ports that forced "waggle", etc...
