It is insanely good; the 2D artwork is astouding; and it can be very challenging. I highly, highly recommend it.BoneSnapDeez wrote:So I had no idea that Wario Land Shake It! was a 2D platformer. I always ignored it because it looked like a collection of mini-games or something. I am intrigued now.

Love reading replies like these that talk about all kinds of games - it's great fun to see what opinions are similar/different.prfsnl_gmr wrote:...
Three comments in response to prfsnl_gmr though:
* Ghost Squad - Boo! It's great, great I tell you! (Ok, maybe I just enjoy this game more than most. The fact that my 60+ father went out and bought his own copy after we played it together, and then forced his friends to play too, might color my opinion.)
* A Boy and his Blob - Did you really enjoy the level design, or just the art design? I think this game is absolutely charming, but the puzzle aspect was kind of disappointing. Very linear, and anytime there was a challenge the solution would spelled out for you. The game is one of those "almost great" efforts for me, a style over substance affair that would have benefited from separate difficulty levels.
* The Munchables - Hahaha... don't think anyone else has mentioned that game, but it brings back fun memories. Colorful, cute, silly fun. Not sure it's in my top 20, but definitely a gem worth trying and reminiscent of Katamari Damacy. This is exactly the kind of oddball game I loved on Wii. What sticker did you get? I have the Big Brocolli boss (front cover, lower center).
Also, the comment about Wario Land Shake It being insanely good is dead on. Each level is divided into two parts: navigating the level normally while looking for secrets and gathering treasure, and then racing back to the starting point (usually taking different paths) as quickly as possible. Great level designs, great animation, and just a really fun platforming experience.
Has anyone else played Disney Guilty Party, or Dawn of Discovery?

Wario Land Shake It
Not only is it 2D, but none other than Production I.G. provided the character animations.
It's a Wii hidden gem for sure.

PLAY KING'S FIELD.

One additional comment while people are talking about Wario Land Shake It - not only is the animation great, but the soundtrack is too. Highly underrated in that regard, IMO.Exhuminator wrote:Wario Land Shake It

I own but have not played the Super Swing Golf games. How do they compare? Tiger Woods '11 did get great reviews. I'm going to give it a try as well.ejamer wrote:One additional question: has there been a better motion-based golf game than the latest Tiger Woods game on Wii?
That series of games was more fun than they had any right to be on Wii, and one of the few cases of a game being more enjoyable with motion controls than without. Packing in a frisbee-based disc golf mode (apparently only available on Wii?) made it even better.
I'm just not sure if other consoles have emulated/improved on that experience. My assumption is that there must be... and even if not, I'm not sure if Tiger Woods is worth keeping (even in honorable mentions) over Wii Sports which is much simpler but more accessible. Since video games seem to be decisively moving away from motion controls, it feels like games like this will be fun to come back to in the future.

I never did try the Super Swing Golf games, or We Love Golf (which was apparently an unofficial Mario Golf sequel for Wii?) so can't offer any comparison. A coworker did swear to me that We Love Golf was great fun though...retrosportsgamer wrote: I own but have not played the Super Swing Golf games. How do they compare? Yes, Wario Land Shake It! is definitely overlooked and should be given a chance by any Wii gamer.prfsnl_gmr wrote:It is insanely good; the 2D artwork is astouding; and it can be very challenging. Play Kirby's Epic Yarn as well which was developed by the same awesome studio.BoneSnapDeez wrote:So I had no idea that Wario Land Shake It! was a 2D platformer. I always ignored it because it looked like a collection of mini-games or something. I am intrigued now.
BTW, they are working on Yoshi's Woolly World for Wii U.

Just a quick post on Milestone (Ultimate) Shooting Collection 2 which is meant to argue for its place on the list and maybe make this thread move in a slightly different direction...
First, you can get the game for about $25 on eBay these days: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=mil ... mfe=search
Second, it takes almost no work to hack your Wii for homebrew and run an app that allows you to play imports. You can have this up and running on any Wii in like 5 minutes these days.
Third, Ilvelio is insane and worth the price of admission
It make Dangun Feveron look boring.
Fourth, there is a compilation of some of these games for the 360 that came out late last year - http://www.play-asia.com/sakura-flaming ... -86jb.html - the visuals are better (HD), but I guess according to the shmups forums the sound mixing is horrendous and the ability to TATE has been lost (it is present in all games for the Wii Milestone Collection 2). The 360 collection is also region-locked
I really think the game deserves a spot on the list.
Also...since Wii softmodding is so simple and quick, and since it allows you to play imports, I am curious if any of these US releases should be bumped off by some import-friendly titles. Of course, if Mike doesn't want to allow those it is his list...but I'd bet there are some great Wii imports that are low-language barrier and worth picking up...

Can you explain to me why you're pushing so hard for the Milestone collection? I had the first collection and did not care for the titles one bit. Maybe I'm genuinely missing something but I wasn't impressed by Milestone's offerings in the first compilation.
