I hate the Game Club or whatever.

My college has a game club, there was a gathering of all the clubs in the lobby and in the corner was the game club. they had a 360 playing CoD4, Wii with Brawl and PS2 with Guitar Hero. I played Brawl and got to know a few of them and it seemed like fun. My head was filled with possibilities of what could happen. I invited my friend who in turn invited his gf, we all had pretty high hopes.....

I was wrong.
Pros of time there:
-projection screen
-pizza
-while me and my friend were playing Tetris Attack these guys came and we played some games with them, we got our asses kicked and then they played eachother and it was the most amazing Tetris Attack match I had ever seen! It was almost hypnotic.

Cons of time there:
-waste of projection screen
-when pizza arrived I asked the group leader if we could hook the Wii up to the projector and he said they would be going back to LBP in a bit, that's fine whatever. The thing is, they didn't play any games on it. They went on fucking Newgrounds and watched flash cartoons on it, bleh. Oh and while this was happening they were playing Left 4 Dead on the computers. Sooooo why deny us of the projector?
-group mostly consisted of internet meme spouting idiots, complete with Mudkips discussion
-with the exception of us and LBP, the evening was almost entirely FPS based. WEAK.

I will go back one more time, if I face the same shit then I will never go again.
Like, we were hoping to have some 4 player Bomberman games going but noooooo! They were too engrossed with watching Metal Gear Awesome to play any actual games in a club centered around gaming.

Seriously. They turned down Bomberman. I felt like we were seriously alienated, so much so that I wanted to start my own club specifically for retro games, with tournaments, like fighting games and puzzle games and shmup score attacks and everything! Hm, that isn't a bad idea.

FPS is the game of choice this generation... I saw nothing about "retro" in the name of the club.

When I was in high school and college our clubs didn't consist of entertainment really... I guess I found Math league entertaining... but it's not everyone's idea of a hootin' time. Instead it was just us getting our asses handed to us by the magnet schools.

When I worked at a public school I started a gaming club for the kids. Obviously I wanted to participate in the action along with a few other teachers. The club was started in 98 and they have never played anything but FPS games.

I was into it for a long while but after the 100th times in one hour you get trashed talked by a 13 year old who is spawn point camping the romance is over.

That idea about starting a retro gaming club is a good one. I have thought a lot of doing a retro gaming / sell & trade club. Just rent out a room for a Saturday afternoon and anyone can come to sell trade or just show off their consoles and play a bit.

Bring a tv and an old console with you to the club, draw people in one by one to your fun... then BAM.. a month later, Bomberman on the projection screen!

I know my little brother had some games club at his high school where it basically was just a "Halo Club" .. eventually they got more tvs in.. and that is when the other games started popping up. You just need more screens.

As for the OP, definately stop hanging out with them if you aren't having fun. I'm in the video game club at my highschool, and all we play is brawl. That's okay though because I like hanging out with them. Maybe if you don't like those games you should host weekly parties with people who don't annoy you. Then you could do what you want to do.
