Wasn't any DK games, know that for sure.

So far, don't see anything that looks familiar that has been posted above (and I checked out those links above).

I'm beginning to think this was some really obscure game or I'm imagining things lol.

I sincerely hope you stick around the forums, just because it would be hilarious to have a user here named " girlneedshelp."

Probably way off, but could it be Plok! on SNES?

I can't imagine it being anything but Ristar, really. You even mention grabbing bamboo-like tree trunks which are indeed in the game, it's something waaay to specific to be anything else!

I can't recall any other game that fits your description well so perhaps you are not quite remembering the game well and it's indeed Ristar.

It's just what it seems to me, dunno

Thanks everyone for your replies/suggestions/help, really do appreciate it. I actually just found the game myself, it's called Fantastic Dizzy. I'm not even quite sure how I found it now but I did!

Not sure if any of you are familiar with the game but the beginning is exactly as I remember it now that I have seen it and there is a part later on with a mine/minecarts and I remember that part too. Plus the character is a egg and he kind of rolls around like I remember :) I guess it wasn't exactly bamboo, it actually looks to be like a treehouse.

I have actually thought about this game every now and then over the years but then forget about it. My boyfriend is a big gamer and the topic of old video games came up the other night and I was telling him about this game and even he had no clue what I was talking about. I was on a mission to figure out this title once and for all!

I confess I'm not all that familiar with Dizzy. He was a product of a Brit dev house and in video's I've seen it appears to be a much more Euro-style platformer. I think Dizzy showed up on a bunch of old PCs like the ZX Spectrum and such.

Why do you think that particular game stuck in your head so solidly?

I've never heard of a Euro platformer. I'm familiar with the Euro shmup; what differentiates a Euro platformer from Mario/Mega Man/Sonic/Duke Nukem/Commander Keen?

It's the greatest game ever created according to Yahtzee.

Not sure why it has stuck with me all these years to be honest. Just remember it was a game I really loved playing but couldn't say why as it's been so long. I also just have this distinct memory of going to my friend's house and playing this game because I didn't have it (and I didn't have a Sega) and whenever I thought of video games over the years I would always think of this game and be like "what was the name of that game?....." and then I'd forget to try to find it.

When the topic came up the other night I thought for sure my boyfriend would know the game since he plays everything. He had no clue and offered some ideas but none of them were right. He suggested I should ask around on a forum somewhere geared towards retro games. I think I ended up finding it by searching in Google images for one of the other games mentioned in this thread and it just kinda led me to finding Dizzy.

Usually maze-like levels, not a straight left to right, think Turrican.
