I turn them down and they place the drink in front of me anyway, I'm sure they are offended when I leave it untouched, but what the hell does it take?
Make a joke/pour it in their plants/relieve yourself in their closet/puke in their shoes. They'll remember next time

Kidding of course. I guess if they refuse to get the message, just engage autopilot response. *shrug*

Screw that. Demand a bottle, take a single sip, and then shout "I'M DRUNK!" Break the bottle, cut your host's face open, and then piss all over the couch. When the cops arrive, shout "He knew I had a problem! Why'd he make me take it?!?!" and then start crying profusely.

Works every time.

Yeah I dont think it is that rude to decline a drink or food offer. In the US, I think the host feels socially obligated to offer it as a means of being welcoming when most of the time they dont expect to actually be taken up on their offer.

It depends on the company. I have some older southern in-laws and even some of my family who do consider it an insult if you turn them down. The in-laws feel insecure about their offerings (which are actually quite good, I miss being able to partake) and get offended that you are "turning your nose up". While my family is used to me carrying about 40lbs more muscle than I currently have and thinks I'm withering away. My Grandmother in particular is always trying to stuff my face, and I simply can't refuse her, so I wind up either sick or taking stuff home, which I then have to waste.

The problem I have is that they are accustomed to me eating their food, now I won't and they see me "shriveling up"...so despite my health reasons for changing diet and exercise routine, they won't accept it. None of them ever really make lifestyle changes though, so they always think I'm on a diet, even though I have no weight to lose.

The drinking thing is just rude on their part. I politely decline every time, and it does get old, the suggestions are funny but wouldn't play well since I was a well behaved drunk.

I so sympathize with this discussion!

I have a lot of dietary restrictions, but luckily all of my relations go out of their way to accommodate me. I appreciate the extra attentiveness so much and basically eat anything Key-friendly they make, even if I don't like it.

What some relatives are not so good at is what jp1 is talking about. I can say, over and over, "I cannot eat any more or I will be sick," and yet certain family members will continue to re-offer food every five minutes. I know they are doing it out of love, which is why it makes me feel so bad to continuously reject the offers -- especially when they've already gone through a rigamarole in the preparations department on my behalf.

I straight-up asked my mom if I could be exempt from leftovers this holiday season, and she went the extra mile and decided that if her kids had to go home with food to make the quantity manageable, it was too much. We wound up just having a regular dinner, with no appetizer fingerfoods beforehand. It was the best. No guilt, no waste, no overstuffing.

This is way more doable for us than most, probably, since there are only four or five of us at any gathering and it's easy to estimate how much food is really needed. But the drive to over-make and to over-variety foods out of affection is a real thing, and I'm happy my mom was so glad to push it back.

You have an inch and ten pounds on me. Like I said though I've lost about 40 pounds of muscle, my natural weight is closer to 185. I was at around 8-10% body fat at 185...now I'd hate to know what that percentage is. I grew up in the mountains, and would probably freeze to death like a Chihuahua in an ice bath if I went back for a weekend.

Key, it's so hard...isn't it? My Grandma lives to feed me, her first grandbaby even in my mid thirties, I just can't turn her down...it breaks my heart, so I usually spend the rest of the night in misery. I can't tell her either, it would just eat away at her.
