But with the exception of Wii Fit Trainer(which is less a character and more of a stand-in for the player), all of those characters have been around for 15 years or more, likely going back to whenever this guy was young. I think a big part of this is that he can't accept change and doesn't like that video games have a wider appeal than they used to, and Nintendo has represented this with more female characters.Sarge wrote:No mention of Peach, Wii Fit Trainer, or Zelda, though (and tangentially original Samus and Sheik). So maybe just certain females? Also, have they said whether they're going to use the male or female Robin for the amiibo?
Anyway, such a weird, weird story. It almost makes me wonder if it's just somebody doing some heavy trolling, and not completely serious. Either that, or he's got some potential mental health issues.

"I hate this character and wish she wasn't in so many games, I'm going to buy tons of her merchandise! That'll show Nintendo!"
I don't care how you slice his reasoning, it seems poorly thought out.

I'm just about to go off to college, I could have used that $35,000 to get a car plus pay for tuition for a year or two.
If he had that much money to burn on Amiibo, he could have just completely ignored their existence and given it all to me, and the result would have been infinitely superior for all parties involved.

Could be. Dunno. I'm just speculating. There is mention about how he hates Nintendo's designs now, and maybe there is an unhinged aspect relating to females. I'm just saying he's not going after all of them, and I just wonder if it's a way to get attention.Ack wrote:But with the exception of Wii Fit Trainer(which is less a character and more of a stand-in for the player), all of those characters have been around for 15 years or more, likely going back to whenever this guy was young. Well, actually, it's definitely a grab for attention either way.

The part where his argument falls flat is when he includes Lucina in his rant.

That guy pisses me off. I don't own a single one of the things, no use for them, but also no money lying around either for frivolous fun things. My wife has been out of work due to an incurable health issue most of the last 2 years. To see a dick like this throwing that many thousands of dollars around when I'm short by the month like 1500 makes me furious.
This isn't woman issues, or he'd troll the entire lot. Also the mix of women you can't peg it to skin showing or tight clothing, or anything uniform with it other than being powerful characters in their own games. This is straight up fanboyism mixed with mental illness from the looks of it. The list appears mostly female, but also things that popped up during the Wii and later period though the Trainer is oddly absent in the grudge buying. I'm thinking he's like some closeted fanboy stuck in the 20th century of Nintendo when they were a far better off company and is reflecting their downfall and change through the new gaming characters (fit trainer isn't a gaming thing, it's an exercise buddy) being hated upon.
One of these days I may buy a couple of them as desk buddies, the usual suspects from the 8/16bit period though. I think Rosalina was a fine enough character along with Luma, Galaxy was an amazing game as was the sequel.
