I own 10 amiibo so far (out of the 18 already out) and I have 6 of the 11 figures in wave 3 preordered.

I own these:
Link
Pikachu
Peach
Fox
Marth
Wii Fit Trainer
Villager
Pit
Diddy Kong
Captain Falcon

I have these ones preordered:
Ike
Lucario
Rosalina
Shulk
King Dedede
Mega Man

Feeling a bit stupid for not preordering Metaknight too, I think that one will disappear quickly. I preordered early, so hopefully none of these will be cancelled.

Since Christmas I've pretty much been out of the game. Are my Little Macs and Diddy Kongs still sought after at all? I started seeing Diddy pop in more places than not. I never landed Pit. Maybe that ship has sailed.

Apparently Argos (a catalogue company here) has Little Mac Amiibos ate a few of it's stores. I decided to check to see what the nearest one to me was.

I'm up to 171 miles away and nothing yet XD

Edit: Still scrolling through the list. I'm seeing stores in Scotland and Ireland now, still nothing XD

You have a spare Mac? If I can find a Pit, would you be up for a trade?

I've got all of Wave 1 and 2 except for Peach and Pikachu, which I will grab at some point.
I've got a good number of Wave 3 pre-ordered including Lucario from TRU. However, I could never get the pre-order in for Rosalina so I will probably end up importing that one if it proves to be difficult to find. The same goes for Shulk.

I'm pretty happy with my small collection as I'm just going for my favorite characters at this point. I found them all in brick & mortar stores. Some lucky timing was definitely involved.

Fox
Samus
Link
Donkey Kong
Kirby
Little Mac
Pit
Captain Falcon

All opened and displayed on a shelf. I have no desire to keep them in packaging.

Well, with the yen being down right now - the shipping isn't a huge factor. My last order was (1) AES game and (4) amiibo for 5,000jpy shipping ($43) - seeing as (1) AES weighs the same as (3) amiibo, that means you can get (7) amiibo for $43, or $6 apiece - not too terrible (no tax too). If nothing else, it's a good alternative to ebay JP amiibo resellers - they're clearing $25-35 apiece plus shipping, which is almost twice what you can get them for from nin-nin.

Maybe it's just because I got carried away and had put an excessive amount of Amiibos in my cart, then :P .

Also
Some pretty nice prices on some of the retro stuff on there. Thanks for sharing that little gem. I definitely see myself putting in an order in the near future.

So I officially buckled and bought my first two Amiibos today (unfortunately these are the only ones that I wanted that I could find). It's crazy how picked over stores are.

So what's the best way to open these things up, while still preserving the packaging as much as possible?

I snagged a Zelda Amiibo to have an Amiibo to get to 50 and fight against. Can someone explain why people are trying to own them all? Is there a reasoning beyond the collection aspect?

From what I can gather, no. I think it's almost purely based on desire/rarity and "collection" purposes. Though actually i'm quiet surprised how great the figures look for their price and so they make for pretty good display. Personally, I'll own them for the bonus content in games such as Hyrule Warriors, Smash, and MK8, but other than that it's just for owning the figures themselves, displaying them, etc. I don't think i'll own them ALL, but just my favorites on top of any exclusives I can get my hands on. I'm a bit baffled by how much money some people are spending on the hard to find ones.

I am a bit excited to see what direction Nintendo takes Amiibo. I think it's proven to be a big financial success. I just hope it doesn't come down to them holding back content in their games to pressure people to buy more Amiibos in order to unlock "everything". Nintendos entrance into the DLC realm has been interesting.
