That's why I created this thread; to find which sticks are the best based actual players' experience with them. I will make an amendment to accept GC-style sticks if you have had success with a manufacturer/seller that you can link to. I currently have a lubricated official controller in good condition, the main reason I am looking to repair my other controllers is so that I can play multiplayer games with my friends without us being on unequal grounds due to control stick inconsistencies.Exhuminator wrote:I realize it's subjective, but I did use one of those GC style sticks in an N64 controller when I played through Ocarina Of Time recently. Personally I had no issues doing any of the spin attacks or anything. The sensitivity seemed spot on.
I think it's worth considering that there are different manufacturers of these GC styled sticks. It stands to reason then, that some of them are not as good as others. Maybe people who had trouble with them in the past had ones of lesser build quality.
At any rate, the price is cheap enough to at least give it a shot.

That's awfully kind of you. I had a friend growing up who would always make sure he had the controller in the best shape before handing out the worn out ones to everyone else.grandta13 wrote:the main reason I am looking to repair my other controllers is so that I can play multiplayer games with my friends without us being on unequal grounds due to control stick inconsistencies.
I've been meaning to pick up a couple more N64 controllers for years now. Has anyone had any luck buying worn out N64 controllers super cheap and then refitting them with replacement sticks? Or am I better off just doing the legwork to find non-worn controllers?

The ones I bought, I bought about three years ago. So honestly I'm not sure who I bought them from, or if they even still sell them. However, if I were to buy more today, I would buy them from the seller "Video Game Museum" from this list.grandta13 wrote:if you have had success with a manufacturer/seller that you can link to
But if you are dead set on not getting the GameCube style stick, you could try buying a normal style stick from here or from here (I suggest seller "Hitgaming Video Games" on either link).
That is exactly what I did. I wanted an atomic orange and a black N64 controller. Both were extremely expensive in new or great condition. So I bought used ones that were aesthetically nice but had worn joysticks. Then I replaced the joysticks with the GameCube style kind. And now I have two perfectly functioning atomic orange and black N64 joysticks for a fraction what I would have paid otherwise.Duane Dibbley wrote:Has anyone had any luck buying worn out N64 controllers super cheap and then refitting them with replacement sticks?
