I actually forgot about that trick. And to be honest, I prob spent a good hour in the ruins just trying to find my way through. It's a bit of a maze. My experience with Grandia games is simply fight everything you see. If you do, you'll be plenty leveled. I never felt that I had to really grind more than just making sure you don't avoid encounters.SpaceBooger wrote:I have been at the Ruins for about 30 min leveling up Sue's water magic... should I keep doing this or is it a waste of time in the big picture?

<---------- Obsessive grinder.
Ultimately it's probably not needed at all. Especially when one considers how many enemies can be defeated before they even have a chance to attack. I've made it through some dungeons without losing any HP!

Re: Together Retro: Grandia
I fight everything when playing RPGs... this slows me down but I enjoy battles. I only grind if playing while watching something on TV (ie Sports) that way I don't have to pay attention to the game in regards to the story. I just wasn't having fun grinding magic.noiseredux wrote:I actually forgot about that trick. And to be honest, I prob spent a good hour in the ruins just trying to find my way through. Re: Together Retro: Grandia
My advice on grinding in this game: don't do it.
I did it and now I feel like I'm way too high a level; the only "challenge" in combat seems to be when I'm recklessly casting spells knowing I *might* run out of MP before finding the next save point. It's too easy! I'm used to games like Dragon Quest where grinding is a necessary and fun part of the game! I've also never come close to running out of money...

I seem to be running out of money?
I think my issue is that I stash too much and then never bother to take it out to sell. Whatever the case, I have only been buying weapons and armor at every other shop and I've been just fine.

Made it to Dight Village today! That knight dude was in my party but because I've played too many RPGs, I decided his legendary sword (which isn't THAT legendary TBH) would be better wielded by Justin.
Work was closed due to snow so that meant more gaming time! I feel like I'm making good progress overall.

Howlongtobeat reckons this is 42 and a half hours for the main game (funny, I'm sure it said longer than that last time I checked).
You must either be right at the end of disc one, or else disc two is much shorter

Yeah it said 43 hours when I checked about a month ago. Great, the game is shorter now!
I hope to get through disc 1 either tonight or tomorrow. That will put me on schedule to finish the game before the month is over (assuming both discs are similar in length, of course).
The budding romance between Justin and Feena is so cute. Reminds me of my 10 middle school girlfriends.

I am little over 11 hours in. I am climbing the wall.
I really like the game so far, the plot is fairly standard so far with no major twists in my opinion. The characters are interesting and the writing has been good. The voice work seems a little hit and miss.
I have not been grinding at all. I think the game is easy enough to work through dungeons logically and be at the appropriate level for most bosses. I have died a couple of times, but usually a quick strategy adjustment solves any problems.
Excited to keep going!
