Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed can hold hands with Mario Kart 8 in my WiiU universe. Both games are great.Ack wrote:There has never been a good game with Sonic in the title, unless Wings was also present in that title.Exhuminator wrote:Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed beats the snot piss outta Mario Kart 8.

Hey hey, that's not true!Ack wrote:There has never been a good game with Sonic in the title, unless Wings was also present in that title.Exhuminator wrote:Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed beats the snot piss outta Mario Kart 8.
There's the Sonic Blast Man series!
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Admittedly, having recently picked up the first Sonic Blast Man, I really haven't been that impressed by it. The titular character is painfully slow, even if he definitely feels like he packs a wallop.

I am only joke. Too many fun is not enough.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
No worries, but I've seen a couple of folks talk about Sonic Blast Man lately on here, so I figured I'd share my real opinion as opposed to just joking around. I like how I can pick up dudes and toss them around like they were paper airplanes in the game, but he moves like an overloaded mini-van with four flat tires. It's almost painful.the7k wrote:I am only joke. Too many fun is not enough.

Oh I totally understand. I think the second one sped the game up a good bit, but it's also much more expensive.
Even if it is a lot better, I don't feel like spending $50+ on it, even if it is praised by almost everyone.
I mean, people seem to praise the hell out of Sunset Riders, and that game is frustrating as hell to me. Every time I talk about that game with someone, their face lights up as if it were the most fun thing in the world to them, but thus far to me it just feels like Contra or Metal Slug with terrible movement and unreliable aiming.

I recommend giving the SNES port of Gunforce a go and then try playing Sunset Riders. I think it'll feel a whole lot smoother after that. I like Sunset Riders, but I agree that it's nowhere near the likes of Metal Slug for me.the7k wrote:Oh I totally understand. I kind of agree there really have never been any great Sonic games unless Wings was in the title. Good sure, but not great. I've played all the 2D Sega Sonic games and 1/2 the 3D ones too and they range anywhere from I should be paid for pain and suffering to good. The problem is that they in 2D back in the 90s were meant as speed games, sure they had a little exploring but the game never felt fluid or fun trying to walk around and I prefer exploring, not speed running to the end. The 3D games more or less were just badly made, same with the GBA stuff which tried to be the 3D games but flat or that 3D battle which didn't work well. It's a shame really, but I'm not going to say I had more fun with Alex Kidd but I can't say I had much less either.

Can you take a second and restate what you said, because I am having a hard time understanding. You say that the problem is that they were 2D back in the 90's and were meant as speed games? They weren't. They may have been advertised as such, but there was a lot of exploration and secrets and a ton of platforming. The problem with the 3D games is not that they are poorly made, but because it is really difficult to translate Sonic the Hedgehog's core game mechanics into a 3D space. They succeeded in some places and failed miserably in others. They seemed to be more of the mentality of throw anything on the board and see what sticks.Tanooki wrote:I kind of agree there really have never been any great Sonic games unless Wings was in the title. I don't know how you can say Alex Kidd is better. Ice level controls and boss fights that are pure luck. Not fun at all. But, you are entitled to your opinion.
