smart remake designs of classic game covers

Post by nickfil »

olly moss is a smart designer. I checked out his flickr today and found some cool game stuff he did. Thought you guys might be interested.

Legend of Zelda - 16 / 01 / 09

I've been meaning to start this project for a couple of months, but wanted to wait until the movie posters are done. Today I broke down and started anyway. 9 games, 9 Penguin style covers.

Inspired by 'Penguin by Design' by Phil Baines.

Ocarina of Time is the first 3D Zelda. 3D games are made from triangles. The Triforce is also made out of triangles. Go figure.

GoldenEye - 18 / 01 / 09

4 Players. One shitty gun.

I think the Klobb has projectile dysfunction (Guffaw).

if you want more...

Sad thing is, I always liked the Klobb. It sucked, sure, but I thought it looked pretty awesome.

The Zelda one's kinda meh, but the Goldeneye one is hilarious.

Agreed.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

i don't know- i like it. It has this throwback book look to it.

I kinda wish that companies like valve or capcom would do something like this. Not only would they all go together and look great side by side, but you could easily see that the company that made it. Plus, if i was missing one or two obscure valve games, i would pick it up to complete the set.

Game covers in general are severely lacking. I can't remember the last time i saw one that made my jaw drop.

ugh. i just wrote a big response and explorer crashed. i hate that.

bassically:
great designs. love his other work too.

sega allowed much more creativity. loved renovation designs, and seismics 4 releases especially musha. saturn & sega cd cases allowed artistic freedom especially utilized by working designs.

sony & nintendo artwork had to fit a mold. Huge logos first...art work second. i went on about this quite a bit....but don't want to retype.

sigh..
