SimCity 5... Anyone playing?

Post by Ziggy »

Title.

The internet is flooded with bad reviews for this game, but mostly because of the launch. I know there's been many updates for the game since then, but it's hard to find current reviews that are reviewing the latest version of the game. So the game as it is today, how is it?

I've read that single player mode was added to the game. Honestly, I have no interest in the MMO part of the game. Now that there's a single player mode, I'm starting to become interested in the game.

I know that you HAVE to have EA's Origin to play the game though, and that really turns me off. Apparently you can play SimCity 5 offline and put Origin into offline mode, but it looks like you still need Origin to activate the game. I hate having to have unnecessary software, and it's mostly what's keeping me from getting SimCity 5. I've heard a LOT of complaints about Origin. But again, it seems like a lot of them are older but still prominent on the internet.

I saw on Origin's website that SimCity 5 is free to try right now.

I've had the same experience with it, tons of dishonest or honest for the time bad reviews. Supposedly EA fixed it with single player mode.

Also though isn't Origin required as I will never sign up for that. Steam is more than enough added DRM frontload junk I'm going to tolerate to fire up games as I couldn't care less if I played a EA game again. Origin has a lot of valid complaints about it I read in the past over a year ago, probably still apply as I don't see EA being 'nice' about that.

Personally I'd love to see Micropolis get ported around some more, and a better win release not saddled with java.

Nope. And the traffic AI is still really messed up.

I didn't need much convincing, I'll continue to ignore SimCity 5 for now. Maybe I'll bump this thread in a year and see where it's at then.

I'm gonna go make a SimCity 4 thread now. :P

After learning about Cities: Skylines, I think I can now just completely ignore SimCity5...

Skylines is really good was going to play Sim City 5 so I could compare the two but the game flat out refuses to launch on my PC :P. Apparently it's a pretty common problem, but I couldn't get any of the work arounds to take and I didn't feel like reinstalling windows to play the PoS.
