Hands of Steel
This low budget Italian Terminator knock off has heart...and arm wrestling. In the future, an evil mega corporation sends a cyborg assassin to kill a blind politician who is advocating environmentalism. In the process the cyborg assassin finds his humanity, merely wounds the politician, and escapes to work at a bar in Arizona, where he gets involved in an arm wrestling competition. Yes, it's about as weird as it sounds. This is not a good movie, but I was still entertained and found Daniel Greene's performance as killer cyborg Paco Queruak to be surprisingly more sensitive than I was expecting. Also, this film has a very sudden shock ending.

Trancers
Dude, Trancers is awesome! A cop from the future named Jack Deth(yes they make fun of the name) must time travel to 1985 by inhabiting the body of his ancestor to defeat a psychic madman who is killing off the progenitors of tomorrow's leaders in a bid to take over through the use of his Trancers, mind-controlled zombies that look like normal people under they go full murder rage. It's a hardboiled twist on time travel and '80s kitsch, and it knows it. It was funny, Tim Thomerson does a great job as Jack Deth(and his predecessor, Phil Deth), and it stars a young Helen Hunt early on in her career. The whole film is worth it just for the banter between Deth and his boss, McNulty, who has to come to 1985 Los Angeles in the body of a 12-year-old girl.
It also spawned a series of six films and a half hour sequel that was part of an unreleased anthology film, but I have yet to watch those.

Traxx
Traxx is a deputy sheriff who gets thrown off the force for being too violent, so he becomes a mercenary and then a town tamer to fight off the local mob, all while baking his heart out to build the cookie empire he's always desired. I's an action/adventure comedy that doesn't take itself seriously, where the star of the film(Shadoe Stevens) is obviously having a lot of fun goofing off. Between the slapstick violence, the bizarre sexual advances of the town mayor(played by Priscilla Barnes), and the constant discussion of cookies, Traxx is weird enough to be worth tracking down. Unfortunately it's also hard to find, as there was only a VHS release. Still, totally worth watching. And it's funny, if only for how odd it can get.

Just got out of Taken 3.
Unfortunately, it's a somewhat weak end to the trilogy. The plot is a bit convoluted (bad times considering the first two spent 10 minutes explaining why Liam Neeson was going to kill everyone and then got out of the way) and the action is tamer since the primary obstacle is the police, and thus they don't all get deaded. I did like how genre savvy Forest Whitaker's character was, though. He never underestimates Liam Neeson, but his underlings do.

Damn dude, how many times are they going to kidnap Liam Nissan's daughter? You'd think they would pick a different girl to kidnap or something.

Taken 1 - They kidnap his daughtersamsonlonghair wrote:Damn dude, how many times are they going to kidnap Liam Nissan's daughter? You'd think they would pick a different girl to kidnap or something.
Taken 2 - They kidnap him and his wife, he escapes
Taken 3 - No one gets kidnapped, but now they're stuck with the title

Watched Skyfall which I kind of hate. It's not a technically bad film or anything. It's really well shot, well acted and is generally a damn fine action movie. I just don't think it's a good Bond film. I don't know, the longer it went on the more it irritated me and by the time the DB5 is revealed I'd just about given up.
There's a lot of contrivance in the plot, some of the themes don't gel with what's happening on screen and it feels very smug with itself. It's a bit like the Nolan Batman movies, by piling on the drama they make their heroes reactive participants rather than proactive. Bond does little of the sleuthing he is famous for, always being one step behind the almost laughably well prepared Silva. It's not as boring as Quantum Of Solace was but that isn't much of a recommendation. Deffo in the bottom ten Bond films though.
