OK.........so I got a modded XBOX

Post by Pullmyfinger »

Hello everybody!!

I got an XBox from a friend for $70 with 2 controllers and some games (some sports and racing games or something), I got myself Shenmue2, but anyways, the problem is that the box has a softmod, which is I what I wanted it for, to use as a Media Center, however, when I put in a disc with movies, the Xbox will say there's no disc, but a game will boot up fine.

Do Xbox discs with movies and mp3s have to be burned in some way or with some program to be able to use them?

you have to go into the mods dashboard (probably evo-X)

Softmods usually use some loop hole. There is the clock mod, the cd mod, and the font mod (maybe others as well). Find out which one it is and use the appropriate route to get to the evo-X dashboard.

Such as the cd track mod uses a music file to trigger the dashboard. So you'd go into the music section of the Microsoft dashboard and select the appropriate trigger song.

Or the font mod requires you to go to the font section of the MS dashboard and change the font to trigger the evo-X dashboard.

Personally I never liked softmods merely for this right here. It makes it really annoying to get into the EVO-X dashboard. But I bet you'll be surprised when you get there as there is probably some more games on the HDD in the XBOX.

Well, just powering it on takes me to the mod's dashboard, but once I'm in and I load a cd or dvd with movies or something, it will try to read it and say it's empty, but loading an Xbox game will work fine

Wait, so is this a DVD? Or is it some thing full of Divx movies? If the latter, you should make sure to see if you have the proper files or w/e to play the type of movie on your disc...

I had a weird problem similar to this that I never bothered to completely figure out. The only thing that seemed to fix it was burning less data on to a DVD. Like 1 or 2 episodes on a DVD would work - but 12 or whatever wouldn't. At the time I had blamed it on the software I was using. (CDBurnerXP Pro) Now I'm not so sure though. What software are you using to burn the CD? (Sorry if you mentioned it, I didn't notice.)

Why not try CD's? Or taking out the XBOX HDD and connecting it to your computer? There is surely a guide to help you do that...Then you could do it directly. Or try networking your XBOX to your PC. Search for stuff like that, and your bound to find out something good.

What type of DVD drive do you have in your Xbox?

is it this, without holes:

or this, with holes:

Because, if you got the one without holes, you will only be able to read: DVD (includes xbox games), DVD-R and Music CDs... However, you will not be able to read: CD-R, CD-RW and DVD+R!

Hope that helps you!
