I hope all the fools that think they are 'investing' fall on their faces too, but I'm sure some of these buyers are ones that just want to play the game on real hardware and have thrown in the towel.

I think spending $75+ on a single game is pretty crazypants, but I have done it in a very few instances. *sigh*

RCB: $93 for Demon's Crest? Some, and as I said in that big post, the numbers are off. I sold mine around that time and I got $120 for it not even trying. I posted it around $90 and put a BIN on it and it just was snapped up as it was a clean copy. That's why I said it was low because at $90 that's what the average or beat ones were going at and I didn't want to get my copy to a flipper, yet I didn't want to just post it at a penny and let it fly.

And you're right the value in time will fall, but it will never recover. People used to seeing a game that should be like $20 going for $100 will see a cratering and eventually people will find a new happy medium as a 'deal' like you said at $30 and that'll be it. I don't see games going as bad a comics and cards where the stuff isn't worth the materials it's printed on.

mjmjr is right and NA does that speculative crap often, but while that site is very guilty of being a driving force of that kind of junk there are noted cases of it going back years such as that TG16 game that is worth around $1K for the HuCard alone. Some dude before they went up bought up a crap load of the games knowing it was a lower run HuCard and sat on them and bought more as they popped up, the dude alone manipulated the value a good bit.

CRT: I wonder about that, I kept 1 CIB N64 game, fan of the franchise but I have the rental only and small web only run sold copy of Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine. When they made that I asked the company about it and it was a 10000 print run of the game of which I think 3K went to the web (I bought one of those) and the rest to rental. Yet look how cheap that game goes for against the lines of Stunt Racer and other rentals, it's confusing, especially since Indy is a very notable Lucasfilm franchise.

Hobie -- No doubt, I've popped more for a few things on the NES/SNES too, not out of pocket budget directly but out of paypal selling other things off I didn't want any longer or flips I found out at the flea market out west. My most damning was $300 for Bonk from flips, I'd never pay over $50~ for a loose cart as that's my rule of thumb, don't go over original retail.

I want to see the bubble burst in the most epic way possible so the "investors" are stuck with mountains of $5 EarthBound carts.

Yeah, I don't see Earthbound going that cheap, but I do see them losing a ton when it goes down to a more reasonable level.

I think that fits my sentiment on that happening completely.

Demon's Crest at around $100? Oh, I see why. Capcom was one of my keyword matches from a previous post. It's not even as good as Gargoyle's Quest II (NES) at half the price!

This completed eBay listing for Demon's Crest makes me laugh. Maybe I'll post it in the WTF thread too.

This guy seems legit.

Five dollars is about what I paid for my copy of Earthbound back in the day. Good times, good times.

I'm not sure the bubble will ever burst like everyone things, but I suspect the prices will stabilize a bit and not really keep up with inflation or whatnot.

For my money, Demon's Crest is the best game in the series, and one of my absolute favorite SNES games. Although Gargoyle's Quest II is also excellent. Different strokes and all that, I suppose. :)

yeah a couple years ago I bought the SFC Demons Crest for like $15, it's quite playable in Japanese. But it seems like that isn't a cheap option anymore, it's going for $50+ for a cart. Most people figured out how much cheaper SFC versions were and now that's ruined.

Hell, both Gargoyles Quest for Game Boy and the NES sequel friggin smoke Demon's Crest, IMO. Now there's a series that needs another sequel.
