Re: PC build thread
@nobody: yeah thanks! I went with the i5-4690k because I feel like it's pretty much the gaming PC standard right now. And that "K" for a few bucks more means it can be easily overclocked from the 3.5GHz if I want to look into that. I got a Cooler Master 212 EVO on the way with that in mind. I also got a some freebies with the i5... a Steamkey for Total War Rome II (which I'm pretty sure I'm looking to trade/sell as I don't really have any interest in that one I don't think) as well as a cool Intel mousepad that is gigantic.
The mobo I finally landed on was an ASRock Extreme3 Z97. I had my heart set on a 97 as I've been reading about them for months. Not that I'm really using anything on it that I couldn't get out of a Z87, but I figured that faster SATA stuff would be there should I need it down the road (my SSD that houses my OS is pretty small, so a future upgrade isn't out of the question). Plus Z97 leaves me open for Devil's Canyon if for some absurd reason I needed another CPU in the next few years. The UEFI is awesome on this ASRock. A real pleasure to use. I also like the blue highlights on the mobo as the front fan LED on my case, my mouse and keyboard LED's and my headsphones are all blue.

Sweet PC, good choice on the i5-4690K, and the ASRock Z97 board, really loving ASRock and my next build will be ASRock again, rocking a Z68 board right now.

Re: PC build thread
this is my first ASRock, replacing a Biostar. The jump in quality feels huge to me. Be it the physical build, how well it comes packaged, the UEFI, the driver and suite of software tools, it's really really nice and not a bank-breaker. Like I said, I had settled on a Z97 months ago, but brand-wise I wasn't totally sure. I had contemplated a couple MSI's and ASUS "ROG"s as well. But I'm glad I landed on this one. I then spent a month or so trying to decide between the Extreme3, 4 and 6... but in the end couldn't find any real justification to spend extra.Hazerd wrote:Sweet PC, good choice on the i5-4690K, and the ASRock Z97 board, really loving ASRock and my next build will be ASRock again, rocking a Z68 board right now.
What's your current build, Hazerd? Are you planning a new build soon?
Re: PC build thread
Looking epic, dude! I bought my first Asus (which is also a Z97) after strictly buying Gigabyte boards for years, and it's been awesome. I really enjoy the friendly BIOS interface and OC options and not to mention the color/options/layout of the board itself. CPU was a great option, and even when Intels Skylake CPU's come out in who knows when, I don't think you'd feel any pressure to upgrade. It seems like recent CPU as well as foreseeable CPU releases are focusing more on power consumption in order to put more competitive architecture in mobile devices and have only provided relatively marginal upgrades.

PC specs are sick d00d. I'm currently in a lull with PC gaming and mostly focused on console games, I'm sure I'll be back on the PC bandwagon here in a year so though and I'll be updating my card and whatnot.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.
