Re: PC build thread
Since they released the Witcher 3 specs and I dont even come close to the bottom edge, its time to start shifting money around from other projects so I can start pricing out parts.

Re: PC build thread
yeah I saw that yesterday, Fast. There's been a few games now upping their requirements to around this level (quad-core CPU, 6GB RAM...) so it's starting to feel like we're seeing what the sort of 'next gen' requirements will be for the PS4/Xb1-era of PC games. If I had any extra parts for you, I'd gladly offer em up. Unfortunately the CPU I'll be replacing in the near-ish future is an i3, and I'm not sure if you'd want a socket LGA1155 mobo...

Nah its cool. I just gotta move some money around. The issue is, when I build this pc it will be rack mounted. So to get to that level, I have to rack mount everything on the main computer desk. Thats not really a problem, just something that needs to be done first. Ive been trying to get a rack for cheap on craigslist, but I dont need a 42 u rack, Im thinking 12 or 20. But now I have access to a metal shop I might just build one.noiseredux wrote:yeah I saw that yesterday, Fast. I weep for you, noise. Tears of joy. Not because of the build itself (which is cool), but because of your spirit. This used to be you:

Now, you are a gleeful tinkerer, going further and with more care than most who play PC games. Gone is noise the boy, and noise the man is a damn fine PC gamer. You've even become an evangelist, bringing brother Mike into the fold.
I just am waiting for you to ditch it all and go on a Lynx kick or some such...

Re: PC build thread
hahaha, I thought of this last night myself. The "old noise." The thing was, I was into PC gaming up through WinME, and then got out of it by the time XP hit. So in my mind, shit always was complicated haha. But yeah, it is a funny progression over the last decade for me.
That said, I can promise Lynx et al will not happen. Even in those old posts I talked about not wanting a bunch of consoles. In my mind, PC is the one "console" I had always been looking for. One box that plays everything, be it old or new. Plus, I really have grown to hate the hoarding aspect of the hobby that we sugar-coat and call "collecting."
But seriously, thanks for the kind words. I truly do feel that getting so into PC gaming in the past couple years has actually reinvigorated my love for gaming in general. I find I buy far less games, but I get way more into the games that I do buy. I play the hell out of them, and appreciate them on a deeper level. I also feel like the tinkering part of the hobby makes me appreciate the medium even more. Knowing that I spent the time to pick out some new part after hours of research and then installed it myself, only to spend more time taking screenshots and adjusting in-game settings to see how the change has effected some visual... it's just a lot of fun.

If that is where it's going I'm glad I took my questions, this thread, and other research very seriously when I got the laptop I put together.noiseredux wrote:yeah I saw that yesterday, Fast. i7-4710MQ @ 2.5ghz (turbos in games to 3.5, can take a 1GHZ faster CPU I didn't buy)
16GB of RAM (max at 32)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M 8GB video card
This new line of graphics chips nvidia figured out how to cut the loss to 15-20% over the desktop model in performance, previous of theirs and AMD is a 50% loss on average in capability.

are you looking at my signature? It always says that and I have no idea why. I'm on Steam every night, though.fastbilly1 wrote:But you havent been on steam in two weeks!noiseredux wrote:I find I buy far less games, but I get way more into the games that I do buy. Re: PC build thread
Looks like I'll be playing TW3 on PlayStation. This isn't exactly a powerhouse laptop these days in the GPU department but this is the first game that I don't even meet the minimum for? Seems a bit nuts. Can't imagine how it'll run on an Xbox One if the minimum PC requires a 7870.
