Outside of Skyward Sword, are there any other games that Nintendo released a patch for? I know there was talk of the servers going down so you couldn't get the update any longer. Is that still true?
On the flipside, if you were to play Skyward Sword on the WiiU - would it download the patch?
It wasn't a patch in the conventional sense, apparently that wasn't possible on Wii hardware.
They released a channel on the Wii shop which you have to run to patch the game. The Wii shop is still up and running, so you can download it right now if you want to.
Fantastic, thanks. For a myriad of reasons I had actually never opened my Skyward Sword (with the controller) but learning after about that flaw in the game had me looking to take care of that.

It didn't even patch the game, just the save file. And actually, if you don't have a SS save file and launch the channel, it'll tell you something like "No SS save file found, you will return to the Wii menu now."
Definitely download the channel while it's still available. But even when the Wii finally goes totally offline, I think we'll be safe. It's super easy to soft mod the Wii and I'm sure you'll be able to grab this channel from multiple sources on the net.

If you know where the glitch takes place, it's super easy to avoid too.

Agree get the file while you can. The Save file can also be downloaded thru the PC later even if the Wii is not modded or Wii online support goes away. Simply transfer save files via the SD Card.
