Talking about the SMS on the general board got me sitting here trying to map out the legitimacy of eventually completing my SMS collection. I'm a ways off, but I'd like to try.
Anyways, I was looking up prices and something confused me. I'll use Ghouls 'n Ghosts and Slap Shot as examples. I don't see versions of them with the standard US manuals, only the PAL-type manuals that are printed horizontally. Are these US releases? My understanding is that they are, but I don't really feel like chasing down games that are actually PAL only (as tempting as it is to get those too) or buy the PAL version when there's a clear cut US version.
In short, are there SMS releases in the US that only had horizontal manuals like the PAL games do? Thanks

Re: SMS Region Question
I think so. As the system aged, the differences between the US and PAL releases began disappearing (until, finally, Sega just slapped a UPC sticker on the US version of Sonic the Hedgehog). The way I normally differentiate between US and PAL games is by looking at the text on the back of the box. If it contains multiple languages, it is the PAL version. If it is entirely in English, it is the US version.Snatch1414 wrote:In short, are there SMS releases in the US that only had horizontal manuals like the PAL games do? Thanks
Also, I have a very large number of SMS games; so, please feel free to PM with any questions about collecting for that system. (If I recall correctly foxhound and cookiemonster actually have a complete set; so, you may want to contact them too.)
EDIT: Here is the US version of Slap Shot:

My copy is identical to this one, but I am missing the manual (which, I see now, was printed vertically).

Re: SMS Region Question
I guess I will go by the language on the back since I'm a bit confused now. Thanks for the info though great stuff. I guess it only really matters to the person collecting about the manuals/versions really.
