Awesome info on magic. Any suggestions on what kind of magic to give to each character?

It really all depends on what roll your character will have. Water is more for healing and status effects. Earth does defense buffs/debuffs and some offense, fire and wind tend to be very offensive. Just recently unlocked the lightning, explosion and nature spell sets and will see how they turn out.

Some of the elements, like Earth, are difficult to level up initially, as the starter spell is a defense buff. It is hugely helpful, but takes a lot of time to get leveled to unlock an offensive spell.

Excellent game. I started playing it exactly a year ago, and it was a rewarding experience throughout. My only gripes are the awkward camera angles and easy battles, but its replay value remains high for me.

If anyone's looking for a similar game, I'd recommend Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals. Another game with an innovating battle system and neat dungeon design.

Well I started playing it again(I restarted though because I wanted to play it from the beginning and honestly I don't recall where I was at and I'm pretty sure I'd be clueless what I was doing at the time anyways). Man I love the comedy in this game so far :lol: I think I'm on my way to sult ruins(lunar has to wait until i'm home since I don't have it so I can take it with me when i'm not at my mom's house yet....)

I'm pretty annoyed w/ the opening of this game. I've spent nearly an hour and I'm still not out of that first town. Even w/ the map, I didn't realize I had to talk to Gantz before being able to pick up the items. So I found one and was like "why can't I pick this up?" Then I had to talk to him and his mom before I could get the third. Had to talk to his mom to get his brother to help me out. It's just not clear, and I'm annoyed that I've actually had to check FAQs just to leave the first town.

I'm certainly hoping it picks up more and resembles the second game a lot more very soon, as Grandia II is a masterpiece.

Yeah that, "Do things in a very specific order," hasn't come up again after that and I am 20 hours in now so it does pick up.

I started this up this evening myself. I also had trouble figuring out how to get the 'sword' for Gantz.

I've finished up the first little dungeon and did some more stuff at the starting town, and I'm off to the mine next time I play.

The battle system seems a little frantic at the minute, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. Mostly I just love the dialogue so far - the NPCs are charming and funny, the translation is well handled (unlike the awful job in FF7) and if anything I actually look forward to running around the town chatting to people.

That first town may be one of my most hated locales of any video game ever. It's just a big beige pixelated mess.

Finding the cafe entrance (further along in the game than where you are noise) took me like 15 minutes because you can't see it when the compass points north.

Grandia is a great game, but a shining example of how awkward early 5th gen stuff is. Look at how smoothly something like Chrono Trigger plays - and how much nicer it looks - compared to Grandia.
