Anyone use those RockCandy Xbox controllers? I want a pink one.

I mainly use a Logitech controller, and also heavily use Joy2Key for DOS games.

I have an Afterglow, which is made by the same company as the Rock Candy. I suspect the designs are going to be pretty identical. I think it works just fine. The D-pad isn't great, but no XB360 pad has a great D-pad. I have a Logitech for games that need a better D-pad.

I also have an MS 360 pad, but I haven't opened it, yet.

if you want a good dpad, skip to the Xbox One controller instead. Super comfortable.

I have a Super Smartjoy and a RetroUSB SNES adapter that I use for my SNES controllers - either works fine but Super Smartjoys are no longer being made.

For modern gaming on a pc I would highly recommend a Microsoft made Xbone controller. When plugged into a Win7 or Win8 PC it detects and configures it within moments. It is excellent for any game that supports xinput - so many modern pc games. While I still prefer using an arcade stick, my Spelunky runs got significantly better with the Xbone controller in one night.

Why Xbone over 360 wired? Well Xbone controllers are everywhere right now, while 360 wired are a dying breed.

However if you want the best adapter you can get, buy a blissbox. Or wait until ulao reposts the blissbox 4 player kickstarter. Then you get an every controller to usb adapter.

It's cheap and has worked well enough for me but it's, well, cheap and I think it's better to spend a bit more and get a good stick instead.

I resorted with my new computer due to how things seem to be handled now in gaming with that xinput stuff going with the 360 controller since it has a USB port on it and it just works stock even without the install disk on Win7/8.

I also have a really wicked joystick, flight stick actually one of those CH Fighterstick USB which can be coupled with a separate throttle(don't have it.) I got lucky a year ago and found the thing at a goodwill for five bucks to come home and see them selling for over 100 online so I kept it. It works wonders for any game in a full 3D space (flight games, etc.) I can't recommend it more than enough as I've had CH and other sticks since the early 90s and it's the best I've used to date.

I know if you must use legit 1st/3rd party stuff for a system you need to find a USB jack that's HID compliant so it just straight up works without being a headache and the RetroUSB stuff works among others. I once had one of those Adaptoid devices for N64 and that worked awesome too up through Win7 as it also allowed use of the addons for rumble, saving games, and so on -- plus it doubled as a dex drive as you could dump your saves to a PC and not lose your files.

Oh I have one of these too. Love it.

Back when I was heavily into emulation I used:
- Super Smartjoy for most all gaming
- A N64 USB adapter for N64 emulation
- A knockoff USB Saturn pad for 6-button Gen and Saturn emulation
