The first two are old enough that they don't count as "new with old style", but 3 certainly does.

And I'll +1 for Hard Reset. Loved that game.

Hard Reset is under $4 right now *75% off* at steam through the 2nd. It looks vaguely similar to something I've seen before or maybe I hit an old demo of it years ago.

How similar is the 2013 Rise of the Triad to the original? I played the hell out of the old one back in the 90s. I also think it would be cool to see Blake Stone resurrected (and outside of FPS, Commander Keen, Jazz Jackrabbit and Jill of the Jungle would be cool if they kept honest to the source material.)

I got Hard Reset. I'm usually very biased for sci-fi in any form... but I dunno, nothing about it is grabbing me. Not big on the weirdly wobbly HUD either. lol

I am really enjoying Shadow Warrior. It's definitely updated from the retro style, but is a great amalgam of gaming past and present.

I keep considering that one when it goes up for discount but I never was largely into the original which you can legitimately download for free these days like I was with Duke Nukem 3D which is the same game engine.

Well, I'm only so far in, but I like that you can specialize somewhat, improving your weapons or your sword. And melee with the sword is a legit battle style. I rarely use the guns and actually love the sword more right now.

Sounds like it is what Red Steel failed to do on Wii when it released back in 2006. They tried to play up the sword play so much, but it was so badly implemented it just got you killed so you had to fall back on stock guns which weren't that fun. This though has a good working swords and upgrades so that's nice.

The original Red Steel didn't even let you use the sword during half the playtime; you could only do it during duels. Red Steel 2 was the real realization of the sword and gun dream.

And it was awesome.

Seriously Red Steel 2 is great.
