Score! EB is good for something...
Re: Score! EB is good for something...
I stopped doing business with Gamestop a long time ago. They have the aformentioned shady business practices and the general feeling of them wanting to sell mostly used games, due to the much higher margins.
And then there's the recent rumors that they pulled Dawn of War 2 from their system because it requires Steam, which means that people won't be able to resell, as well as introducing people to a world of digital downloading.

The EB/Gamestop around me doesn't sell Dreamcast or PS games either,I don't really like them too much they charge more for the used games than new games at other stores.I would only buy if it's $10 or something really nice.

Every store in Australia does that. Not a single game I've ever bought has been sealed.lordofduct wrote:That's when I stopped shopping there. Grandia 3 came out and I went to go buy it (I'm a fag for Game Arts... I know).
I walked up to the counter and said I want Grandia 3 new.
"You know you can save 5 bucks if you buy it used!"
"5 whole dollars? Really? Woooooowwwww... nah, I'll take it new please."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I like this company, I want them to make more games."
"Oh that's a load of shit."
"Give me my game."
"Fine."
He turns around and pulls out a case, then opens a drawer and starts looking for a disc.
"Excuse me, I said I wanted it NEW."
"Oh, this is new."
"You've opened the game!?"
"It's just our practice."
"And my practice is to walk."

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

That's crazy. Where's the joy in unwrapping it if it's not wrapped and sealed? You lose pack-in stuff. Live codes, stickers, buttons, tid-bits and what-nots! That's outrageous.

If I go I ask when the receive the shipments and I go right at that time and pull out the game for myself and take it up to the counter.

im friends with the head manager at our gamestop, so he doesnt open my games, i mean, on midnight launches they dont open the games either
Re: Score! EB is good for something...
They also unseal new games and sell them as used. A new copy of Super Smash Brothers Melee has a suggested retail price of $30, but if they sell it as used they can charge $40. The same thing happened when that Gitaroo Man reprint came around.

Totally untrue. Yes, when a game that was new and had a low msrp (gitaroo man, MvsC2) becomes rare or popular and out of print, the used price goes up, sometimes higher than the original new price. This happened with super smash bros melee, halo, final fantasy x (for a bit), and probably more. However, as long as you can still find a new copy, the used version will be at least a little less.
(full disclosure:I used to work for gamestop. I am also not a fan, but I have read my fair share of stories on the internet bashing employees without people understanding what they are talking about. As much as you may hate gamestop or its employees, remember:you can never hate it as much as the employees do)

Oh yes we can... cause employees get paid to be there and made the choice TO be there.dlmvii wrote: (full disclosure:I used to work for gamestop. Just like I can hate insurance companies more then the person on the other end of the phone telling me they won't pay for my medicine for pnuemonia because it's a pre-existing condition.
Re: Score! EB is good for something...
Sorry to say, but you're mistaken. I knew the employees at my Gamestop really well and they told me that they did that when they got new copies of SSBM, Gitaroo Man, and I think even Rezdlmvii wrote:NO!!equalsign wrote:They also unseal new games and sell them as used.
