I got this music creation app from the eShop about a year ago. Recently I composed this:

Has anyone else here tried out this program? I like it a lot.

I thought it was cool that Korg makes these products for the DS and 3DS. As someone who used to be heavily into VST creation and experimentation, I've always been into virtualized music production. That said, to be honest, there are far more accurate and powerful software emulations of these Korg devices in actual VST land. I would suggest if you're into this concept to get a good VST host and start browsing the archives of KVR. There's a ton of fun to be had creating music with these tools. I've spent thousands of hours of my life tinkering with the stuff, it's addictive!

Re: Korg M01D for Nintendo 3DS
I got pretty into playing around with Korg DS-10+ a while back. I used to to make some video-game-music-inspired video game music for Unemployment Quest.
It later inspired me to actually buy a Korg R3 synthesizer! I also imported Korg M01 for regular-DS. I thought M01 has potential but the fact that it's based on MIDI-using hardware and doesn't let you export MIDI files was a pretty significant downside. This was fixed with the 3DS version though which kind of makes me want to double-dip for it!

Yeah I know korg on 3ds isn't as good as software I could get for my laptop. But it's a nice low stakes way to play around with music. I actually got korg to challenge myself further after making a bunch of music with an even more primitive DS app, Rytmik Retrobits. I think korg is challenging enough for my current skill level, but when I feel ready I'll get something more advanced.
It is really cool how the 3DS has so much non-game software, though. It makes me feel I'm getting my money's worth from Nintendo's two screened handheld.

The Korg 3DS software is part of what inspired me to pick up a nice 49 key USB midi keyboard and a copy of Logic Pro X fwiw.

Older. Not wiser.

Heads up, Korg M01D and the slightly more expensive Korg DSN-12 are on sale in the e-Shop for 50% off at $17 and $19 until January 9th. Total noob here, and had a lot of fun experimenting with DSN-12 the last few days.

Re: Korg M01D for Nintendo 3DS
Thanks for the heads up! I loved messing around with this on the DS, and have been waiting for the 3ds ones to go on sale.
The one thing I really enjoy about these is the touch screen. I can come up with something in my mind easily enough, but plugging in dots to create the sound is tiring to me, and often doesn't produce what I want. Being able to tap out a beat, or drag a bend or pitch into a note just feels right, like I have easy control and am able to replicate what I hear in my head.
I actually run the DS one out to my amp and play guitar along with it. Super cheap setup, and allows me to actually jam to something. Really looking forward to trying the 3ds ones out.

This looks like something I oughta try out. New sounds are always good.
