I've not played hardly any newer games so I don't really know whats out there that fits my style. Gone Home is the newest game I've played but that's still an older style game.
My favorite pc game is gabriel knight 2: the beast within. Of course I love the kings quest series, leisure suit larry, etc. Huge Sierra fan basically.
Is there anything currently out there that I should try?

Try some of the TellTale adventure games. I loved The Wolf Among Us, and based on your tastes, I think you would enjoy it immensely. (There are also many, many adventure games for the Wii such as Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek, Safecracker, Secret Files: Tunguska, etc., and you may want to give some of those a shot.)
If you are looking for something more action-oriented, you may want to try some first-person adventure games such as the games in the Chronicles of Riddick and Metroid Prime series.

Re: Need recommendations for newer games
Oh yeah, there are tons of games out there. There has definitely been a resurgence in adventure games. I would highly recommend digging into the telltale adventure games as previously mentioned, but also I would recommend DreamFall Chapters: The Longest Journey (although I do recommend you play the previous games in the series first, The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey).
I would also highly recommend Kentucky Route Zero for a more artistic and abstract adventure game that really runs on all cylinders.
Other recommendations would be for Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure. This was a kickstarter to continue the awesome FMV adventure game series, Tex Murphy. It is a very humorous sci-fi series that I recently fell in love with. Highly recommend it.
Another great one is, of course, is Broken Age by Double Fine. It is a fantastic Adventure game by the maker of Full Throttle and Grim Fandango, Tim Schaeffer. Amazing storytelling at its finest!
Hope those are of some help on your journey through modern adventure games!

I think your best bet might be to look back through the GOTY threads from the past few years. This year's thread is here, and in the OP the previous six years are linked...
