this was a very interesting record. I love Monch. I was a big fan of Organized Konfusion back in the day.Razzmatazz wrote: 5. Pharoahe Monch - P.T.S.D. (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

Re: Hip Hop/Rap Fanatics Unite!
It's that time again. Time for me to post something about some old shit and only pay attention to the thread for a few days before wandering off because I don't really have much to contribute or much interest in newer stuff...
Picked up 3rd Bass - Derelicts of Dialect today. I'd only heard Pop Goes the Weasel before. I'm about halfway through the disc and it's good stuff.

I've never met a pun I didn't like. - Stark

Re: Hip Hop/Rap Fanatics Unite!
Either A) I haven't liked much music this year (especially coming off of 2013, which was an amazing year in music), or B) I haven't been paying attention.
I always do a Facebook post regarding my favourite music of the year and I can only think of two albums of any genre that I REALLY enjoyed (that came or this year) and they are:
Slipknot - V.5
Wutang - A Better Tomorrow
On top of that both albums had to grow on me.

How does that slipknot album compare to the others?
I forgot all about that one. I'm still waiting for the next Iowa personally.

Re: Hip Hop/Rap Fanatics Unite!
Ill be honest, I haven't like anything from them since Iowa, so I wasn't expecting to like this one. IMO, it's their best work. It retains the classic Slipknot sound, while bringing back the turntablist and percussionist, which had basically been mixed out of the last two albums. Rolling Stone said it best when they said Slipknot captured lighting in a bottle with this record.stickem wrote:How does that slipknot album compare to the others?

Put it this way, this album made me a Slipknot fan again.

Word, i'll give it a shot. Honestly i didn't think the ones after iowa were bad i just miss the "heaviness" sound iowa had, if that makes any sense.

YG
Blame It On The Streets
2014, Pu$haz Ink
YG's second major release of 2014, Blame It On The Streets is basically a companion to My Krazy Life - though it's a pretty adventurous and interesting companion for sure. Packed in with a DVD release of YG's short film of the same name, Blame It On The Streets serves as a brief soundtrack. However, while it would have been easy to just toss together some leftovers from the Krazy Life sessions, instead we get a pretty interesting mish-mash. The opener is a live rendition of "BPT," which is already interesting considering how few rappers properly release live material anymore. Next up we get a remix of "Bicken Back Being Bool" featuring West Coast vets DJ Quik and Mack 10 rather than whoever happens to be hip right now. Things get even more experimental when YG gives up a whole track to rock band The Neighbourhood doing a live cover of his track "Me & My Bitch." It's this kind of willingness to step outside comfort zones - or even preconceptions about what an album should be - that makes this a compelling listen even when it's nowhere near as strong as My Krazy Life. Though the real jewel here is the closing track, "2015 Flow" which finds YG rapping triumphantly over a drum-less piano driven track. This song alone makes hearing Blame It On The Streets a necessity for YG fans, as it's basically an end of year victory lap. And with any luck, "2015 Flow"'s placement as the last song on the disc is an indication of things to come as well.
