Excellent!

By February I bet your Wii U collection will be larger than mine.

Right now, I only have NintendoLand and Super Mario 3D World. Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, DKCR: Tropical Freeze, and Hyrule Warriors are on my hit list, however, and I may try to hit a pawn shop or two sometime tomorrow.

Honestly, I feel the same way. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned.

The disadvantage of digital releases is that you are tied to a server or a specific service, if it goes down everything else goes down like Wii Shop.

The disadvantage of physical copies is that consoles eventually die, and you will have to find a working replacement. Not sure how many PS3 controllers will be working in 10 years.

The best is the PC where all you need is an OS (which you can emulate like DOSbox) on any available computer. Also the games can be digital OR physical. I also believe PC games are much easier to mod ex.. If Phantasy Star was on PC instead of DC it probably would still have online games. (I know there is a PC release)

First off, Wii shop is still up. Second, at least with Nintendo, if you want to upgrade your wii shop virtual console titles to the Wii U, you pay a small amount of money, unlike Xbox Live where you just lose your stuff, end of story. Would that be seen as acceptable in future consoles? Want to transfer over your previous titles to the new console? Then pay up!

If you take care of your consoles, you shouldn't have fear of them dying. Even then, repairs are available. We have been fixing our old systems for how long now?

Phantasy Star Online was on PC... twice as Blue Burst and Phantasy Star Universe, both closed down. The first is still alive through private servers, however. So why use that as an example for saying, "If it was on PC it would still be alive!" MMOs vs Single-Player content are two different topics all together when it comes to the digital realm.

The Wii Shop is still online. Does anyone actually bother checking facts before typing their posts?

And, as Bogus pointed out, Nintendo is the only console manufacturer that currently allows last generation digital content to be used on their current generation console.

You can't play PS3 stuff on PS4, at all, and you can't play Xbox 360 stuff on Xbox One, at all.

Sony has a slight advantage since they support crossplay depending on the title between PS3 and PSV, or PS4 and PSV ... but I haven't seen any titles that are crossplay between PS3 and PS4.

This would be an issue for any games on a system, physical or digital. It sounds like you're assuming a digital release automatically means it'll be usable on new hardware or something.

This is sort of true ... but you chose the worst possible example. Phantasy Star Online is still playable on PC and Dreamcast due to private servers. And PC has the same problem. Once Steam, Origin, or Uplay bite it, what happens to the games owned through them?

As far as I know, Valve is the only company that's had a strong message of looking for a solution if their service ever dries up so players can still access their content.

Yeah, the PS4 is oddly out in the cold - there are other cases where Sony does this very right. While I think it only applies to a subset of PSOne Classics, for instance, there are some that are buy once and play on PSP, Vita, and PS3.

IMO, it'd take a lot to kill Steam (particularly), and if anything did, it'd probably be an acquisition/merger. Or it'd simply be a "come use our service, and we'll honor your Steam keys" situation. Otherwise, good luck attracting customers.

Finally picked up Bayonetta 2, been meaning to get it, and target had a deal with buy one game, get another 40% off so it worked out since I needed to get a game for a late present. My wife has not put it down since we got home, she is loving it (and hating it at some points!) But she is very into it, and I am excited to take a crack at it.

Glad we got it, definitely want to show support to them for making this game happen!

Guilty Gear Xrd has it, although apparently it's laggy.

Anyway, I just got Shantae on Wii U. Been fun. A kinda lite Metroidvania experience so far.

Bayonetta 2 is an incredible game. It's probably my game of the year actually, with Mario Kart 8.

So I've been playing Watchdogs and man I gotta say I'm really enjoying it. I'm slowly getting used to the controls and I get distracted with side activities frequently.
