Darius Gaiden is sort of hard then?

Reading the article about PS shooters, and having played Darius Gaiden on MAME, but mostly on the Saturn...

Did anyone reasonably finish that? After practicing for ages I was able to complete it on the Saturn - but in the end I needed to use of Player 2's credits to finish the Final boss (I took always the upper choice in paths and ended up at a huge, tough as nails Whale ship).

That means I used up all the credits the Saturn gives you on player 1 and then blasted away whatever was left with player 2 hoping the thing would just finally die already (and it finally did).

However this game seemed to be somewhat unfair in a way that other tough shooters aren't (e.g. Ikaruga, where I die a lot but don't get that feeling).

As much as i like darius gaiden i have to agree it is sort of hard and i have also resorted to using player 2 credits on the saturn just to make some progress.

And i think the biggest problem is that it could have done with some toning down on the difficulty for the saturn version instead it plays too much like the quarter munching arcade verison.

It's very hard. The Darius games have always made me rage.

It's more manageable if you use the code that gives you rapid fire. I think the rapid fire alone makes a huge difference.

Rapid fire does help a ton. I could never get a hang of that series myself I just enjoyed seeing all the crazy bosses.
