Gender is more cultural and self identifying. Getting surgery performed is then changing ones sex, and at that point would be technically more correct if following the definitons for ones sex vs gender.marurun wrote:I think the term SRS - Sex Reassignment Surgery, is highly incorrect on a technical level. Sex is genetic and cannot be changed, being chromosomally defined. Gender is cultural with biological and anatomical elements, so GRS/GCS would be the most technically correct.

Let's not debate terminology. They're only labels after all.

Ya'll have absolutely no idea what can of worms ya'll are about to open.
The vast majority of people in the world have never gotten a karotype test, likely never will, and we very easily assign sex without any need to do so.
Besides, HRT changes your biology in a LOT of ways, everything from skin texture to bone density to hair follicles, along with more obvious ones like fat distribution, muscle volume, and secondary sex characteristics, not to mention affecting your risk profile for diseases that tend to affect one gender more than another.
It's not a topic I really want to get into too much anyways.
well you know except for cases like this or this or any other similar disorders. This stuff is actually pretty murky.marurun wrote:Sex is genetic and cannot be changed, being chromosomally defined.

...and yeah, this. It really it doesn't matter that much. Whether doing this makes me a 'real' woman or not depends on how you're defining things, and honestly it's about as relevant to me as telling a person with a prothetic leg that they'll "never have a real leg."samsonlonghair wrote:Let's not debate terminology. I dont really see how discussing terminology is an attack on the validity of your gender. Quashing discussion on such things is to further overall ignorance on the issue.
I think discussion on here is typically respectful of most things, and why bring topics up if they can't be discussed?

I'm not saying it to 'quash discussion' I'm saying it because it actually is a big, confusing, complicated mess of a topic that I don't have the energy or desire to dig into.
When you start getting into the sex/gender divide, how the line between them is actually pretty fuzzy and not totally agreed upon, and how social ideas of gender play into how we define 'sex', etc etc etc, it gets very meta and makes my head spin and I honestly don't think it really goes anywhere and I don't want to go down that road.

Just to talk about the thread (two years after it started), because I don't want to talk about gender:
I pretty much have no friends on the boards (outside of having played a few games here and there on Steam with some of you guys, and having mailed exactly 01 game to another member here), but I just like the general attitude on the forum.
So, yes, I appreciate the community here.
I'd venture to say that that is because the internet makes us drown in so much negativity that this place is a good antidote and I keep coming here year after year for that reason.
While you can go to any other forum to have everyone say that everything and everyone that I like absolutely sucks, I can come here, post about some videogame and it's pretty much guaranteed that someone will show up to say it's awesome. And if you want to talk about a forgotten system from the 80s, some gal or guy will drop by with a list of at least 30 games proving conclusively that what thought was piece of crap plastic gadget from 30 years ago is actually a must-have and that you should try to get to know more about it.
So, pretty nice environment all things considered.

Mjmjr25, SevenOsevin, Noiseredux, Dsheinem, Ack, Simplehumar, and Hobie-wan
- These guys are the reason I've stuck around this site for 5 years now, no matter what was going on in my life. There are a few other honorable mentions but off the top of my head, these are the guys whose posts I follow when I browse active topics.
Fun Facts:
Noise ended up becoming my friend because he sold me a defective gameboy back in his Gameboy Player Land days and I was so worried that he would think I was upset by his mistake that I made a point of talking to him via PM to show I thought he was a good guy.
Mjmjr25 has given me no less than three pieces of advice that helped me to relax and realize that my wife is the woman I was meant to be with.
I miss Seven and have always felt bad that I could never make time to play SFIV online with him.
Dsheinem intimidated me for a really long time because a lot of what's going on in his life mirrored goals I had set for myself.
Ack once talked with me about possibly moving to San Antonio for work and I was actually kinda sad when he managed to end his prolonged unemployment without coming this way.
Simplehumar is a nice guy on the same level that I held/still hold Breetai to be on. In my opinion, he represents the paradigm that I wish all forum members could meet, myself included.
Hobie-wan is a nice guy on a similar level to Simple. I hate driving distances more than an hour or two but I have no issue driving to Austin when he is visiting our mutual friend Redline.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: The official Racketboy "I Love You Man" thread.
I've chatted a bunch with all these guys over the years, with the exception of one, and maybe more so even before they were mods in many instances. I agree, all top notch members. I think JT deserves a shout out as well, even though he gave me a public lashing recently and seems generally disinterested in my PMsFlake wrote:Mjmjr25, SevenOsevin, Noiseredux, Dsheinem, Ack, Simplehumar, and Hobie-wan

BMF - Always so friendly, goes out of his way welcoming new members and making them feel at home.
Key-Glyph - Never seen her lose her cool, posts are never filler and always a fun read, incredibly friendly as well.
Blu - You're my boy Blu, You're my boy! I love your outlook on life and great attitude.
TSTR - TSTR tot, funny, witty, super friendly. Always spreading the love bb!
Flake - Always expect some thoughtful conversation, and creative ideas.
Dave - Love/Hate, I love him and he hates me. Just kidding, always one of the first to welcome me back after long or short hiatus.
Noise - Awesome dude, maybe nicest guy I've dealt with on here.
Mike - Tolerates my bs, always cool, generous, and down to earth.
JT - I love all your posts, ALL of them...they are always worth reading. You seem very much like a "Say something worthwhile or say nothing at all." kind of guy. I appreciate that.
Hobie - Love Hobie's quirky humor (which I don't always "get"), calm and down to earth nature, has always felt like a friend even though we don't talk a lot, we have chatted a bit through the years and I've never had a bad experience.
Ack - As I've said many times, tremendous respect for the way you handle yourself. Every interaction, even the ones not dealing with a pleasant topic, has been a pleasure.
SevenOsevin - I miss Seven, maybe our interactions were generally B/S/T related more often than not, but he is a great guy. Brought a lot of charisma to the place.
Much respect for all the members who go out of their way to conduct themselves in a caring, accepting, and friendly manner to everyone they encounter and there are far too many to list. Even those who I've talked with personally would take me all night to write out, so if you aren't on here and you're like WTF....don't worry, I'll get ya next time.

Re: The official Racketboy "I Love You Man" thread.
Aww shucks.
I don't want to single people out because I don't want to leave someone out. I'd like to think that the people I've clicked with know it due to me cracking jokes after their posts regularly, PM chains that go on past initial important information exchange, chats via other mediums, or in person hangouts that have already happened or are on the 'someday' list.
Even if you're someone that I sometimes want to strangle or haven't had a discussion on some odd subject, that doesn't mean I don't like ya.
