Yeah but I'd rather have the cartridge based stuff, it just took me puttting them on the new shelf to really realize it :shock: (especially when i was so focused on nes/snes after I joined...still trying to figureout wwhere I stopped doing that(except the fact I've bought so many ps2/gcn/wii games off this forum for some odd reason :lol: ). I don't like not having more games to choose from on nes/snes(and soon genesis as soon as those games I purchased off ebay get here XD)

Ah, well in that case, go nuts. :D

Sorry, the way your post was worded I got the impression that you might have thought you "needed" more of those games because of some expectation. My mistake.

No, it's just that it feels like the older i get the more I want to play those cartridge based games and I just happened to realize how small my current selection is(heck I wish I had actually grown up in the days of snes/genesis and begged my parents for more games during n64 days too). I keep seeing some of the games you guys are playing and wish I could play some of them(yeah I know about emulation but I don't like the idea of doing emulation except the kind the r5 does)

See I find it bizarre that you say the RetroN5 is the only emulation you like. To me, it's the worst of both worlds -- you've got an emulator that you need to pay the extortionist prices for games on! I mean if you're going to emulate, emulate! For the price of a RetroN5 you can get an Ouya and load it up with every rom in existence. Yes, the ability to use original controllers is nice, but you can get USB adapters... for about the price of 1 good SNES rpg.

But like CFFJR was saying, if it makes you happy, go for it. Just to me I can't see the draw.

Honestly, if I hadn't gotten into NES/SNES-era games a decade ago, I don't think I'd be starting now. Prices have spiiiiiiiiiked. I'm lucky in that I have just about every game I remember from my childhood, as well as most of the ones I rented/wanted to buy. Now I pick up the occasional curiosity or games when they come my way at a good price. But man, having to collect all the high-demand classics... :shudder:

Honestly true emulation to me would suck, don't know why but I like sliding a cart into a console(I think it's for all those years I spent on gba especially after the DSi had been out for a few years which I never really paid attention to ds like I wish I would've since I had to beg my parents to buy me one when they'd already bought my sister one for some odd reason...even when she wasn't that into games and probably isn't now since she's switched to dating-ish while getting herself in trouble with apps on her phone :lol: )

Oh don't get me wrong, I see the appeal of original hardware. It's part nostalgia for sure, but the tactile response is clearly important, as is the knowledge that all games run perfectly as intended (although, to be fair, at this point 2nd-3rd gen emulation is nearly perfect and others are getting there)

Just... I dunno, like I said, RetroN5 strikes me as worst of both worlds.

But in the end, like I say, if you like it god bless ya! I'm not saying you're wrong, just saying it's not right for me.

This is one of the reasons I love the golden age of arcades. You had people doing the most out there things imaginable, because at the time nobody really had any idea what a video game was even supposed to be like. It was all flying by the seat of your pants and tossing out whatever wacky ideas seemed fun, no matter how weird or nonsensical.
I must say that I played many retro games and I had many moments where I would think "thats amazing!" it can be any where, some where in the level, in the menu screen, or the control scheme. When you get an effect like that in era of the PS4 from a game that was made 20 years ago, you know it was a really creative effort.

such as the C&C install screen

@RyanTheSlaya

The problem with iOS is that there is so many good and bad games that a developer might as well stop trying to make an effort. Unless you have a well known brand, at $1-5 a games, it will be very very hard to make a living making games on that platform.

For example, there was a game called Vampire Origins which was not bad at all, but who knows about this game? It is lost like a sand grain in a desert . Another is Solomon Keep.

I think I'm one of the few that might know about solomon's keep but I think i've sunk more time into across age, angry birds, and a few other rpg's on iOS...I ought to go back and sink more time into it but I'd rather play some games I can't honestly take with me like that....

The Retron 5 is godly.

It allows you to play/collect legit carts while still reaping the benefits of save states and translation patches. It's the best of both worlds.
