I picked up a couple of N64 controllers through the official Nintendo store a while back for "safe keeping," as I'm paranoid about those darn thumbsticks. $30 for piece of mind didn't seem too bad.
I checked back in last week and they don't have them listed anymore. Can I assume they're permanently out of stock?

I think that would be correct. Nintendo usually ditches what they sell after they finish a generation.

It is easy to replace the joysticks if you find a dealer on ebay with sticks in stock. 10 minutes with a screwdriver and your done.
Re: N64 Official Controllers?
You know, I wouldn't usually back a 3rd party controller. But with the price of N64 controllers these days, I'd recommend going to Play N Trade if there's one nearby and buying one of their N64 controllers.
I don't remember the actual brand, but I am quite happy with the one I bought from them.

...Yeah, but my point was that Nintendo, until recently, was still selling brand new N64 controllers which seems to have stopped. Bummer.
