Hooray, the last Slagsmålsklubben album I needed came today, Boss for Leader. Some much needed levity injected into my evening.

There is a new chiptunes=win compilation for winter 2014! Pay what you want or stream from PC.

I'm 5 tracks in so far and enjoying it. They usually release high quality samplers:

I know, right?! When he dropped Kemal and Rob Data's "The Messiah" I nearly dropped by pans!

Noisia: "Purpose"

Drum n Bass is my one true love of the electronic dance music scene. We had a strong thing going in the late 90s and early 00s, but we kind of drifted apart and neither of us called each other for awhile. So, I'm not up to date on the past few years of jungle/dnb, but Noisia has always leveled cityscapes with their neurofunk devastation, so when I found out they had a new full length, it was time to reconnect with my love for DnB.

Yes! Yes! YES!

This album is a banger! Nice fat and chunky bass lines. Buzzing and whirring tech. Banging drums. Jittery ghosts snares. Warm synth pads. Polyrhythmic hi-hats. Sci-fi sheen. God I love this kind of music. It's been too long.

Ok, I'm binging on DnB right now. After listening to Noisia again for the first time since "Split The Atom" came out, I decided I would follow up to see where some of my other favorite producers from the mid oughts have turned up. Naturally, Evol Intent was my next logical choice.

Image

Evol Intent has always managed to blur the line between EDM and IDM, while also being the drum n bass equivalent of death metal. Their tunes are huge, dark, menacing, and brutal. Case in point, listen to Noscope from this EP and feel your chest collapse as it pummels you with relentlessly scrubby basslines while tearing a hole through the space time continuum with drumming skitterbangs that refuse to be neatly classified as techstep, dubstep, twostep, or anystep.

Damn you Noisia! Why is that vinyl or downloads only? I want it on an aluminum platter.
