We discussed this before I think, where we said that limits push boundaries, and now that anything is possible people are just not as creative.
This is one of the reasons I love the golden age of arcades. You had people doing the most out there things imaginable, because at the time nobody really had any idea what a video game was even supposed to be like. It was all flying by the seat of your pants and tossing out whatever wacky ideas seemed fun, no matter how weird or nonsensical.

Not going to lie but you're right...sure there are some great games coming out now but they're not as creative as all the games from the 80's and 90's were....(I'd love to see a revival of creating more rpgs in 2d in the style of lunar though...)
My gameroom
My systems: NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, original gba, gba sp(001), ds lite, 3ds, vita, psp, PSone(101 model) ps2, ps3(320gb model), ps4, retron 5, and Dreamcast.

The only place where I see games as wild and kinda strange as 80s arcade stuff is iOS. There's a lot of shit there but it is the wild west landscape in gaming. Traditional stuff has budgets far too high to risk anything crazy.

Edit: Still kinda wishing I went with an Xbox One. But really I don't think either are really worth owning right now.

Thinking about buying a retron 5 and importing the japanese fire emblem games.

There seems to be 2 different labels for Seisen no Keifu (genealogy of the holy war) - any idea why?

One looks like this:

That's not to mention all the weird and interesting control schemes during this time - both in consoles and arcades, before the D-pad and joystick were really standardized.

These ColecoVision homebrews... So sexy...

I think many (most? all?) are ports of SG-1000 games.

It looks like most of these are impossible to find now. Though I think somehow a few are on the new Coleco Flashback? Might have to get one afterall.

The second pic is not a Fire Emblem game. It says "Sangokushi" (三国志) so it's a Romance of the Three Kingdoms game. The first image does have "Seisen no Keifu" (聖戦の系譜) so that is the correct one.

Weird, it came up multiple times, maybe some bad translation on somebodies part.

Thanks for that though! I did end up buying a Retron 5, so I might pick up a few of these whilst I'm at it so they're here when it arrives (I only want it for the translation capability!)

Outside of the medieval / D&D games I don't think I enjoy Capcom beat 'em ups at all. Just played some Captain Commando and almost fell asleep.
