Also, prices at the time of this posting, for $5 more you can get the 1TB version.
Why do you have a 500GB HDD for Wii?
is it hacked to read game files off a disk?

IIRC the Wii shop is dead or almost dead and you can't transfer those games around?

The original Wii doesn't even support external hard drives without being hacked, so it's a sure bet that he is playing games off the hard drive instead of using discs.

While not a fan of piracy, I can see how this would be more convenient than changing the all the game disc all the time and would save normal wear-and-tear on the disc drive. Have strongly thought about doing something similar here, because we have one Wii acting as a cheap Netflix box (bought used for $20, disc drive doesn't work).

Yeah, I had to repair a grinding noise issue on my original Wii's disc drive a few times already. I want to limit use of the drive as much as possible.

So I finally picked up Watch Dogs for the Wii U and it looks pretty good. Yeah I see some low res textures and a couple of frame rate hits but I don't care it's runs fine and the hour or so I put in it was enjoyable.

Yeah that's all.

I wish I had a Pro Controller. That'll be my next purchase.

I'm aware a lot of people say the game is terrible, but at $5 it was hard to say no. It's an online only price, though, it's still $30 in store.

Even if it is terrible, I'm sure I can get $5 of enjoyment out of it.

Yeah. I bought it too. And no. The game is perpetually below 30fps and rarely goes over 23 in the open world. It's an absurdly bad version of the game.

As to the game itself technical stuff not withstanding, it's okay. Plays pretty much how I expected it to.

Do you know if using the console in vertical position might increase the wear-and-tear on the disc drive or not?

My WiiU thought of yesterday: The only competition my WiiU has for my gaming attention is my 3DS.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I honestly couldn't tell if it was under 30 FPS but those couple of hits I witnessed was south of 20 for sure. Again it doesn't bother me too much. I knew this going in as long as game breaking bugs are not present and those dips don't occure all the time I'm good.

Honestly what's killing me are the damn controls. Coming from a 360 controller with the letter layouts (Y on top, X to the left, B to the right, and A on the bottom) and then Nintendo switching that around (Y on the left, X on top, A to the right, and B on the bottom) throws me off completely. Minor complaint really.

Actually blame MS. Nintendo invented that layout back in 1990 for the Super Famicom and has used it ever since. MS like a lot of things they 'develop' stole that layout and just reversed the letters. They even use the same 4 colors of the Super Famicom controller buttons too (red, yellow, green and blue.)
