Yep, Revenge is the one with various cameo bosses, the amount depending on the version you play iirc. It is like 3 more than the arcade games, in that you have the extended moveset (Double jump is here as well), and a life counter. Basically, Revenge is where the change happened, and 3 is the sequel to it.
I think, if you dig 3, Revenge would be right up your alley.

Ah, I've wanted to give that one a crack. Definitely didn't stop me from jumping in to Shadow Dancer though!
I was just unsure if the Rolling Thunder series had some intense ongoing narrative that can't be missed, or anything similar that leans towards the games being played in order. If RT2 is simply an advancement from the first game, but cut from the same sleeve, than I will be okay starting there.
With transitions like Shadow Dancer > Revenge, though, I do like getting things somewhat in order, just to feel the transition that others felt. I wanted that "Super" in the title to smack me in the face, and I'll be damned if it didn't!
Picked up some more Genesis games, only had time to play two of them yesterday.
Sonic 3D Blast - Went through the entire game, with all Chaos Emeralds. Always was fond of this as a kid, and I still enjoy it now, but it certainly isn't without its flaws. The aspect and control of Sonic, for me, is fine. Never had difficulty aiming a spindash or making jumps or anything. The music is pretty sweet, though mostly the stage 2 track and the puppet stage stand out. Most of the tracks just suffice, but aren't memorable. I had a great time in the first two stages, making sure I found Tails and Knuckles in each Act, making sure I had enough rings to do the bonus stage, going back with a long enough Flicky trail to snag the 1ups and Continues... but honestly, once I had the Emeralds (Which is FAR too easy, as is the entire game really), the game starts to lose its charm. Without looking for the characters or bothering for the extra lives (Since they max out at 9 and the game, as said, is very easy), I started to realize that the game really is just "Kill 5 enemies, advance". Most of the bosses aren't great, though I did think the final boss was pretty fun. I still have a soft spot for it, but its far behind the Sonic Trilogy, and not something I would play more than once or twice a year, if that.
Mick and Mack Global Gladiators - Saw a complete and nice copy at the flea market for $3 and had never even heard of the game, so I figured I'd give it a whirl. (Side note: This thing was never played. The contacts were shiny, like I've never seen, the plastic holding the game did not want to give, as if it has held this cart for two decades. I was pretty shocked when I went to clean it, never seen contacts like those). Anyways, the game itself is apparently a McDonalds game, though the only clue to this is a small "M" arch in the corner of the cover. Its a slow-paced run 'n gun platformer... and, its actually not terrible. Character controls well, jumps are precise, there are some interesting secrets, the enemies actually want to kill you, all that jazz. Music was surprisingly quality (No Batman and Robin, but quite nice). The game has 4 Worlds, each with 3 Acts. I made it to World 2 before having to call it. The first act uses the same assets throughout, with pallet swaps, ala Sonic, which is fine. No boss to be seen at the end, but according to the manual there are bosses near the end of the game. Not astounding, but way better than I had expected.
Also, this game has the COOLEST manual. I want to take some pics and upload them. Not only does it inform you about every aspect of the game you could care to know about (Down to how many points you need to enter your name on the scoreboard), but the credits... oh man, the credits. Every single person has a silly nickname in the middle of their name, even down to the dozens of "Special Thanks" people listed. I know its weird to praise a manual, but I just love it. These guys were having fun making this.
I also picked up Sub Terrania, Phantom 2040, and Ms Pac Man, but have not had a crack at those yet.
And... I've re-organized my collection. Bought a really nice shelf, have my boxed Genesis atop it, getting ready to frame some Genny posters... shit is looking sweet. Have not ever been this happy with my setup.
It's nice to see you getting excited about your Sega Genesis collection. The thought has crossed my mind more than once that I should ditch everything else except for Sega Genesis. I probably won't go that drastic, but in light of moving, I have been strongly considering paring down my collection.
Cool to see another 3D Blast fan, dunpeal2064. I've always liked it, still haven't played the Saturn version but the redone music sounds cool.
I agree about the Rusty Ruins having the best music, but man don't leave out the Volcano or Ice stage themes hehe.
And like I just said in the random gaming thoughts thread, I accidentally opened up a youtube video of a Shinobi 3 longplay run... and can't stop it because the music is too good haha.
Cleaned up my area and just got my essential games to play. I was playing a great and fun game called alien storm. Good game to play for 20 min or so. Its so much fun.

Thanks man. Its nice, I've gone between collecting everything, and nothing, but this is the first time I really feel good about my collecting. Not spending too much, acquiring games slowly enough to actually spend time with them, its really... fun.

Yeah, I played it when I was fairly young, and the game blew me away. The isometric 3D feel was crazy to me, and it still felt great to play. Even with its flaws, I still had a lot of fun running through it. Just a shame the game isn't a bit tougher. I think next time I play, I will skip all extra lives, and only collect them from Knuckles and Tails, since thats the reward once all Emeralds are had. I most enjoy the game when I am hunting them down. Just a shame they didn't revisit or touch on what Zone 2 does, with having you keep a spin through an area to access new areas. Definitely feels like the high point of the game.
I played some Sub Terrania and SoR last night. Sub Terrania is very good, excellent music, and a great vibe all around. The game is very different in its control though, and its taking some getting used to. SoR is great as always, finally fell at the end of Round 8, to the damn twin ladies in black that just zone me in and whoop my ass. I always figure out a new way to handle some of the tougher bosses though, so hopefully next time I will get a bit further. Really mean that they stop restocking your special in that final round.
And damn, I need to check out Alien Storm! Looks fantastic.

I think I could probably go a year or two playing nothing but the 16 bit trio (SNES, Gen + CD, PC Engine + CD). One system would be too restrictive though.
