That's my issue with it as I detest online and the single player is just old now, and sadly kind of has gone all mario party with the non-randomness of all AI picking on the human whatever the place you're in. I just miss the original, the n64 and gba releases as they were the most interesting.
wtf? Have you even played Mario Kart 8? The crazier levels make the entire thing feel radically different from the rest.

I think it deserves it. My only problem with that game is that its more or less the same game since '96 which kills the excitement for me. If it was the first Mario Kart ever I think many people would pick a Wii U just to get their hands on it. Its solid gameplay, easy to pick up, hard to master, and fun for everyone.
I don't think that's so much a problem though. Keeping it fairly consistent is a good part of why people come back to it (arguably something to say about Nintendo properties in general). Racing games tend to be a lot more about refinement than reinvention anyway. Over the N64 release in '96, you do have more customization options, though this isn't the first release to have them.
Those that want something that does try rolling in a lot more have Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, with boats and flight, and a different structure for progression than trying to three-star GPs. Of course, that doesn't have the instantly-familiar vibe that MK8 has.

Where it does fall very, very short is how little attention they gave battle mode.

No I said before I've never bought it when I had the system up until around a week ago. It wasn't worth $60 for me since I wouldn't take it online and the courses alone wouldn't keep me entertained more than playing out the various cups. When I intended to keep the system I was going to try and buy it for $30 down the line used/coupon(sale) new but it never happened. The last one I played was the 3DS version which trumped that terrible DS hot mess with AI cheats. I really haven't found much fun in the series once I was done with the GC game as it's just fairly stale or they've added bad ideas (wii-bikes) and more and more 'retro' courses I just got bored.

I say this as someone who had become incredibly disillusioned with the Mario Kart series and only really had love for the SNES original and, to some extent, Mario Kart 64, but Mario Kart 8 is seriously so f'ing good and perhaps the best in the series.

I found a basic Wii U with SMash Bros and a Pikachu Amiibo for 240 euro which is a great price. What do you guys think I should do? Buy it and buy an HD to connect to it? Is there a big difference between the premium and basic pack?
