Yeah, insanely popular shows would have full releases on VHS. Star Trek is a great example. I actually used to own damn near the entire original Star Trek series on VHS (I think I was missing 3 or 4 episodes). Yes, it took up a lot of shelf space.Nemoide wrote:Here's a complete season set of Xena: Warrior Princess.RCBH928 wrote:I seriously don't remember seeing tv shows on VHS. There was always limited edition or selected episodes. I never saw like a full series box set, for example Dr. Quinn 150 epsiode on VHS.
If you think about it, a VHS capacity is about 6hrs per tape. Lets assume 7 episodes per tape, thats 21 VHSs. I never saw that many.
And here's what seems to be every episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
I can't imagine the maniac who has enough free shelf-space for those Star Trek tapes...

TV shows would not have been released on 6 hour mode though. Remember there's 2/4/6 with decreasing levels of quality. I did buy Blade Runner once that was set to 4 hour mode, but it was significantly cheaper than a higher quality one. That was pretty rare for quality releases from big studios though. So that means 1 tape per movie unless it was long like Titanic, 2 TV episodes per tape, or 4-5 sitcom episodes per tape.RCBH928 wrote: If you think about it, a VHS capacity is about 6hrs per tape. TOS Star Trek VHSes were 1 episode per tape (something like 50 minutes per episode).
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I must say I am surprised. I never saw this many tapes, it was really rare to hear some one has a complete show. Unlike today though, its really common to find some one who owns Breaking Bad and Lost in a complete boxset.Nemoide wrote: Here's a complete season set of Xena: Warrior Princess.

also, those pricess are heart breaking. They must have paid like $250 for them. I think only video stores owned such tapes.

I seriousely forgot when was the last time I saw a movie so long it was released on 2 tapes. I think the last movie I saw on 2 tapes was The Patriot. Heck, I don't even remember a movie released over 2 DVDs.

There's more than a couple of us with 5-10 years on you. I think we have at least a couple of folks in their mid-40s, even - not sure if anyone is older than that.RCBH928 wrote:who is the oldest member in this forum?

I think CRTGAMER is one of the older folks, actually.
