oh trust me I've spent far too much time contemplating haha. The way it has been was that my specific i3 was on tier 2 of Tom's Hardware CPU hierarchy for gaming. For a long while now, this particular i3 was actually rated better for gaming than many of the i3 models. And the rule of thumb was always that it's not really an upgrade unless you are jumping up 2 tiers. That said, a lot of that was because there's not a lot of games that require 4 (physical) cores. However, MGS Ground Zero recently released requirements of 4 cores. So it is time (again) that I start thinking about upgrading my CPU. Yup. It's one of those "after the holiday" upgrade considerations though. Same can be said for another 8GB of RAM of course. For now though, the boost the 970 has given me has been glorious. Everything I throw at this rig has been no issue on max settings.

EDIT: Yeah the 970 is a beast. I had always planned an eventual GPU upgrade, but it wasn't until I read glowing review after glowing review that I knew I had found my new graphics card. Love it.
I feel you on the CPU vs GPU contemplation. I usually lean towards the best CPU I can afford, and tell myself that upgrading GPU and RAM is much easier after the fact. Upgrading the CPU is a more arduous task if it's even possible.

Ok, so my last bonkers Risk of Rain run? Amateur hour.

I almost paused it to continue after sleeping, but I decided 7 hours and 40 minutes was enough. At least I didn't do it on a week night again so I could sleep after.

Those puny green spheres from kills last time? Pfah! Instant slime herd mega death.

Once again I was using the Command artifact which helps make sure you make it past the difficulty trough with helpful items before you can work yourself towards being basically invincible. So many items for me to pick. I eventually started ignoring choosing the white ones as it was too much trouble to open and pick something that would be infinitesimal help anymore.

Even more missile madness and a frosty spinning icicle coating.

Let's try thirty eight 56 leaf clovers, 149 crowbars, 266 lens maker's glasses, 327 hermit scarves, and just more of everything.

More stat craziness. I wondered why the boss counter said 0 last time, glad they fixed it.

Whee, I had 24 drones in that cloud. I couldn't even tell anymore. 3 million+ damage done by some sniper proc along the way.

Wooh. 970. Check out this guy. This just goes to show that the GPU affects games more than the CPU.

I'm building my wife a PC in the spring and since she doesn't really game, I am passing my 760's along to her and buying 2x 970s for SLI (I plan to get a 4k, G-Sync monitor eventually).

Here's a few choice screens from Freedom Planet. I just finished it. This game was awesome! It's a Sonic clone that outdoes Sonic.
