Yes, it is still in alpha/early access, but even in beta it was an amazing racer. As long as they don't add something game breaking, it is still one of my favorite games played this year.

I forgot to look through my freeware games when I first made my list, so I went back and added Tobias and the Dark Sceptres. I love the story behind the game of a kid with a crazy idea to make his own videogame (by himself) that ended up taking him 13 years to make. I found the game to be rather charming as well, with lots of interesting gameplay ideas. I also like that the stages were developed sequentially as he ages, so you can get a sense of how the developer's sensibilities changed over time.

Dark Souls 2 or Alien Isolation by a long shot. Played a ton of great games this year, new releases included, but these two are king.

I've had trouble getting into both of these. I don't think I like brutally hard games.

I really need to give this game another go, but the first couple of hours are sooo boring. How long into the game before you get to shoot something, get chased, or otherwise see some action?

this was me. Yeah. I got really bored after a while. I was considering trying it on the super easy mode that just got patched in just to see if I could plow through it to see more.

When you get the flamethrower, which isn't that far in really. You at least saw the alien I imagine? At the med bay level, I think it was a little past that. By the end of it you are pretty stocked with tons of weapons and stuff you can craft and it's exactly these reasons that made me love it as much as I did. Games like Penumbra/Amnesia are what really bore me. If it were nothing but hide and seek with the alien, then yeah it would have lost me too. But the game was far more than that and I thought the pacing was consistently great. Not to mention it's the best installment in the franchise since the original movie.

It felt like what a new System Shock could have been like. I liked the slow beginning because it had great atmosphere and set the tone, but yeah I can also say it got more addicting the further I got and didn't let up.

I just played a game from 2014: Screencheat. As it is the only game from 2014 I have played, it is my game of 2014.

Since so few of us played many games that were actually released in 2014, I may start a 2014 Video Game Superlatives thread to we can talk about all the games we played this year regardless of their release date. For categories, I am thinking of including:

Best Game
Worst Game
Most Challenging Game
Most Fun Game
Prettiest Game

Are there any other categories that I shoudl include? (Once I get a few responses, I will start the thread.)
