All I'm hearing is "Fuck Christmas" and "Fuck those who don't put baby Yezus in Christmas".

Dudes. It's a holiday about fun stuff and having fun. Why hate on having fun?

The only thing wrong with Christmas is Charlie Brown's seating arrangement.

Besides that, it's all fun. If you don't want fun, don't rain on someone's parade. AND ALMOST EVERY TOWN HAS A CHRISTMAS PARADE WHERE PEOPLE THROW CANDY AT KIDS WITHOUT ANY RELIGIOUS BELIEFS! FREE CANDY! FOR KIDS! AND A PARADE!

Luke wrote:A holiday is only a reminder to do exactly this. There ISN'T an obligation if you are truly friends with people. It should always be "Oh Shit! Luke would love another copy of NHL 2002", but sometimes you need a reminder that "Oh! Shit! Luke would love another copy of NHL 2002".

If your friends or family forces this upon you...well. Fuck off. Your fault for not saying how you feel. The biggest reason my marriage works is that I can tell family to back off and that "we're our own family, and we'll have our own traditions".

So if you can't do that, again, fuck off.
Sure, people you know might understand, but anyone else will think you're a monster for not being in the holiday spirit and tripping over yourself to empty your wallet into their hand/donation bucket/register.
If you can't say "I'm not obligated" or some other shit to people shut your mouth. Sew it shut.
So I just ranted that I hate the season and don't like participating in it, but you just told myself and Pephary specifically to fuck off? Mr Pot, is that you?
And if someone said "Of for Fuck's sake. 4/22? Again?" would you feel the same way?
Totally missed the point. Next time it is some random other date in the future. Don't tie it to a regular schedule.
Give people shit and let them know you care. Christmas is a reminder of that. And that's cool. It's all "Hey you...You know your friend has been wanting that Darth Vader Pez Dispenser...Plus, ya know...it's the time of giving..C'mon".
Again, exactly my point. It's the socially obligated time of giving. December 25th. Be there or be square.

 Holy shit, Christmas is a bigger deal to talk about on here than anything else I've seen. We've got a metric tonne of "fuck offs" and people leaving over a holiday discussion. This is silliness.

Do what thou wilt. Get drunk and stoned with your family and friends (like Ricky says). If you're not into that, then spend some time with them sober. If you hate your family and/or don't have any friends, then fuck 'em. If you're into religion, celebrate it. If not, don't and ignore it. Feel free to be your Christian/Jewish/Atheist/Satanist/Scientologist self, just don't be an ass. Buy gifts if you want or feel you must. If not, hey, that's cool too. Wear what you wanna wear, be it a tacky Xmas sweater or a full-body PVC suit.

Just know that you all are getting a big dose of TeesterLove (TM) from down here, regardless of who you are. AND I DON'T TAKE RETURNS.

You are missing my point: You hang out with assholes if they think this, or are a wimp if you don't speak your mind about it (to their faces of course). As for people who don't care about you? Why give a shit?

Christmas = Hey, have a good time!

Internet = Fuck almost everything. And especially fuck George Lucas.

You could tell me March 14th was National Butterfly Day and I'd be all "Fuck yeah, I'll take my wife out to learn and maybe catch a butterfly or two".

Ant Day? Sure. I could learn a lot more about ants. If there was a certain date for that I'd be there.

Tell someone you care about them day? That's Christmas. Could be every day, can be as well. But it is fun to go all out once a year.

It's a lot easier to love Christmas when your main concerns are finding the right tree, putting lights on the house without falling, and deciding what gifts from a wishlist to give to people.

My Christmas Story:

I remember when I found out Santa wasn't real; I was crushed. My emotions banged around from anger to embarrassment to sadness. I felt betrayed by everyone in the whole culture who had lied to me about my beloved Old St. Nick. I felt foolish for having ever believed (especially since I had had my doubts at times), yet still distraught at feeling like I had lost a good friend who it turned out was never really real in the first place. Dear old Santa. I didn't want this kind of experience to ever happen again. I hate being fooled, and I hate not knowing who I can trust. My thoughts immediately turned to God, who I similarly loved very much. He's a magical old man with white hair who everyone tells me is real, but I've never seen before. Supposedly, he also knows if I've been bad or good and provides rewards accordingly. He sounds an awful lot like Santa Claus. Is he another trick? Maybe when you turn 80 all the really old people let you in on the little lie you've been living all your life? The thought of this ever happening again was more than I could bear at that young age, so I became critical of all magical thinking and supernatural beliefs. I filled up with doubt, which was at first unpleasant, but as the years went on, and I ultimately embraced my doubt and coupled it with some good old rational empiricism, I found it liberating to admit that I don't know everything, and I don't need to know everything, though the pursuit of truth remains a noble endeavor.

Christmas holds a special place in my heart for making me agnostic. Plus, I do love presents and spending time with family who I eventually learned to trust again and love and appreciate for who they are, even if they are flawed characters like me. Thank you Santa for the tough-love lesson in critical thinking. I'll make sure to make you milk and cookies again as a gesture of my gratitude, though I'm reasonably sure (as much as an agnostic can be) that I will be the one eating them later. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

Protip: Don't drink milk that's been sitting out all night. :P
