Despite its obvious flaws, Secret of Mana is one of the best action-RPGs ever. I think Ys Book I & II on PC Engine edges it out, but just barely.
Mana's musical score, scenery, and atmosphere are stunning. It's one of the most beautiful games ever. The title screen / opening sequence may be the best I've ever seen in a video game.

This for me is exactly what nullifies the somewhat lackluster story/characters (against the other SNES top dogs). The atmosphere is just completely unmatched, I always believe it's probably my favorite SNES OST... and that is not easy to break down.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Mana's musical score, scenery, and atmosphere are stunning. SD3's score is just as amazing, but there's something extra magical about SoM's soundtrack to me. That game takes me to another place and makes me smile.

To this day my jaw drops when I hear "Into the Thick of It," how on earth did they make that sound so freaking awesome?BoneSnapDeez wrote:Mana's musical score, scenery, and atmosphere are stunning. Isn't the mana series on the snes where the composer used sounds the way they'd sound on the snes to create the soundtrack of it anyway? At least that's what I thought i heard at one point..I could be wrong as always though

Secret of Mana composer also worked on Rise of Mana. Will we see that in the US? Who knows.

And then there's the alternative "Did You See the Ocean," which kicks up things when it's time to get serious.SNESdrunk wrote:To this day my jaw drops when I hear "Into the Thick of It," how on earth did they make that sound so freaking awesome?BoneSnapDeez wrote:Mana's musical score, scenery, and atmosphere are stunning. I've always loved the dungeon theme:
Dat SNES bass.
