I like that it doesn't look TOO big. Too many games are going for that thesedays and it's just tiresome after awhile.

I agree. It also had a coming together of video game studios. Instead of being competitors they were peers and that is something special that you don't see very often.

Okay, the new Zelda title looks ambitious. Clearly Skyrim was an influence on this one. That's both a good and a bad thing. See, I tend to get bored of a game ofter the first two hours. I can't help but wonder if I'll ever finish the new Zelda game.

You mean clearly influenced by Ultima right? I kid I kid!

In all honesty, I don't get the Skyrim comparison. Having an open world does not mean that it is taking from the Elder Scrolls. With a Zelda game like this, there needs to be a very special attention to the details of the world to encourage you to explore even further. Mystery must be there to make you interested in wanting to explore more.

To be honest, I never played Ultima or Skyrim. I have spend countless hours watching friends, roommates, and acquaintances play Skyrim while I work on other things. I can't say the same for Ultima. I'll have to take your word on that one.

Looking at that video, I immediately thought of Skyrim. I can't be the only one who sees the comparison, can I?

Honestly I think the comparisons to the original Zelda might be a bit more accurate. Even Link's Awakening and Link to the Past were never quite as open as the original game. So I think that's what they're going for, finally somewhat of a successor to the originals style. If they were to pull any influences, I would hope it'd be from something like Dark Souls. I've always felt like those games fit in pretty well with Zelda/Metroid in terms of progression and such with its level design.

What I would like to see is that the map is broken up into very distinguished sections. This is probably my biggest issue with the open world games out there. It's pretty and all at first, but after awhile everything just starts to blend in too much. So with this new Zelda, it'd be nice if there were some very specific areas like Link to the Past / Link's Awakening had, just far bigger. A big lake, some mountains, the woods, etc, nothing that ever repeats itself too much.

I have a feeling Japan will do the open world thing really well though. I'm not too fearful of Phantom Pain either. And speaking of that one, MGO looks incredible:

You know the only open world game that everyone has played is skyrim so anything that has a open world game is a skyrim clone/skyrim like.

Did I step on someone's toes here?

If it looks like Skyrim, swims like Skyrim, and quacks like Skyrim, then it's clearly been influenced by Skyrim.

That's not an insult by the way. I personally don't care for Skyrim, but I can't deny its commercial and popular success. Why shouldn't Nintendo take a few cues from a successful game?

No stepping on toes at all my friend! I just don't see the Skyrim. I do not see the norse influence, the snow covered peaks, the Tolkien-Fantasy. What I saw was a vista, forests and riding a horse and the mechanics involved with it.

If there were dragons, NPCs with time schedules, a tundra locale, an RPG and Dual Wielding combat, then yeah, I would say it was influenced by Skyrim. The fact he was on a mountain does not make it Skyrim.

If you think it is, that is perfectly fine, but I just don't see it.
