As am I, and I played through Venetica earlier this year. Main thing I'd say is that it's originally a PC game, very much designed around keyboard and mouse control. The general style would seem to fit a gamepad - it's got similarities to Fable, if nothing else - but I tried that initially and quickly abandoned it. Basically, the gamepad just maps some of the controls from the keyboard, but not all. IE, the keyboard has 1-7 for an ability quickbar. On the controller, it's the d-pad, thus you only get four slots.

Otherwise, it's not great, but has some good elements. It'd take multiple playthroughs to see all of, as you have to pick one of three factions, along with some rudimentary morality choices along the way.

It looked interesting enough, and I couldn't really turn it down for $2!

not a game proper, but a buddy of mine from work just showed up at my house to drop off an old laptop his wife found in a closet. It's Dell Insperon P3 w/ Windows 2000 on it. It has a 3.5" drive as well as CD and even an ethernet adapter. I'm having some trouble booting it, but still should be fun to play around with when I find time.

So a few days ago I was looking at eBay to see if I could find any good deals. I saw Super Smash Bros for the N64 for $8 in a new listing. However, the words said "Does Not Work". Since I didn't have to pay shipping and it was only 8 bucks I decided to try and give it a shot. Since I have only ran across 2 Nintendo games in my lifetime that never worked and also I could replace the label if worst came to worst.

So I get the game today, took a look at the pins and I can see why. Nobody cleaned them it seems. So I did a clean, plugged in my Smash to make sure my N64 worked and it did. So I plugged in the other Smash and... honestly at first it didn't work and I could see why. There was still rust on the pins so I took it apart and did a bit of a deeper clean. Plugged it in again and it worked. I played one quick round of Vs to see if it worked still and it did. I might try to clean off more rust but it looks like I found a great deal on eBay which I'm not getting much anymore. That being said, the guy who I brought it from was another eBay store but it seems it slipped though the cracks or something since it does work.

I think I'll use it for trading or something since it is becoming a hot game. Though someone I know is I think looking for a copy of it so I might do a trade with them if I'm right.

Pretty cool, just like the HD CRT, I prefer the "4:3" screen of older laptops. It should be able to run Windows XP, maybe do a clean reformat install? That floppy drive invites older game installs with DOS Box.

GameStop was having a 30% off used games under $20 deal. I had been looki at Deus Ex: Human Revolution for some time and saw they had the "Augmented Edition" with book and case for $5. Sadly, it didn't have the DVD that also came with it and the plastic is scuffed up on the XBOX 360 shell but I was a good deal for $3.50 after discount.

I forgot to add this last week. At the local mega fleamarket I picked up a third pachi. A 1973 Nishijin Model B:

It took a night to clean it up and make it mostly work. I need to fix the loader, but other than that shes playable (right now the loader is functioning with part of a qtip holding it up). Also need to replace some of the wiring and the jackpot lightbulb, since it was torn out

One of my winter plans is to build cases for all three of the pachis and make it so they have pipping for the overflow balls so they can share one pool of balls, and possibly be alittle bit quieter.

That makes a 71 Nishijin Model A, a 96 Sanyko Arabian, and a 73 Nishijin Model B in the current collection. The Sanyko is up for trade, but the Model A and B will be with me for awhile.

That's a pretty subdued looking backboard on that machine. Also interesting that the side pockets aren't the flower type.

picked up four project machines yesterday for $250 total. really hyped on the Gauntlet II, all it needs is a board. good monitor, all 4 original joysticks, great artwork. Roadblasters is in okay shape but needs a little tweaking. the other two i'm going to part out and flip (Jurassic Park III and Mega Tsunami multi-whatever).

That was pre playfield cleaning. Most of the wavy clouds went away with a good 100 qtips and a bruised knuckle.

If you EVER want to get rid of those Atari Joysticks, give me a call. I have wanted to mod one into a 2600 controller for a very long time, they just rarely come up for sale.
