@Cronozilla
Selling more is not exactly an indicator of a better game, true, but it was interesting to me that the MK you and I hate so much was the one that sold the most multiple times over.
I prefer 64, Double Dash, and Wii U way more

Not sure if joking or not.BogusMeatFactory wrote:Best game of ALL TIME....Wii Sports.
No matter.
This might be completely accurate.
It might be completely silly.
I'm not sure. I may know more tomorrow.
I know I have put a lot of time into this game in the past few years and it's been quite enjoyable.

I said it jokingly, but when you really think about it, Wii Sports did do something truly remarkable, which was bring every single person in a household together to play video games and it did so with motion controls. People had fun, while looking silly on a mass scale and no one batted an eye. That's a pretty big deal.mjmjr25 wrote:Not sure if joking or not.BogusMeatFactory wrote:Best game of ALL TIME....Wii Sports.

I wish people gave Nintendo more credit for this. Wii Sports was amazing and revolutionary. Yes it may not have had the most shiny graphics in the world but it did something that nobody else had done successfully before. Bridged the generation gap and made people play a video game for the first time regardless of their age, gender or ability.
Further to that point this seems to be the critical thing that people are missing from the Wii U. It's designed to bring people together. That's why the code name was Project-Cafe! It's a place where people can play together, either working together to achieve a common goal (Mario Chase in NintendoLand) or just simply having a blast with 7 other people in a room (Super Smash Bros). Nintendo doesn't care that their system is underpowered and they still made absolutely beautiful games like Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D World on it. Nobody else should either. People put too much emphasis on the power of a system to value its worth as a console. It should be the games that it plays that judges the value of the system.

Well you have to put it like it or not on the power argument because otherwise you're going it alone for the most part which is a shame. Nintendo may not care, but they should and really need to realize that. The Wii worked despite the fact only due to the motion control and starkly lower price.
It may have been a joke of a post, but I do agree the Wii did so much in that aspect primarily with Wii Sports. Not only did they bring back the pack-in game, but brought THE game that would get any age going at it and having fun together which no game has really done before as you could be 8 or 80 and dig going into those few games. Second to that you had a nice pile of overly basic games and trivia stuff along with workout games that got all sorts of people moving.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
That is the thing. When I am working in retail during the Christmas season, parents are coming up, curious to know what is the it system for their kids. When listening to their requirements, the only answer is the Wii U. They want a system where the parent can play with their kids and one that the kids can play together. They want a system where a kid can relate to their iPads. They want a system that doesn't have a harsh on-line environment.Niode wrote:

The number one criteria for any game system should be, "Are you having fun?" not, "Is it the most technically powerful?" If you are having fun with the Xbox One, Fantastic! If you are having fun with the Playstation 4, I am glad! If you love the PC and enjoy it, Great! Love the Wii U, Spectacular!
Seriously people, stop trying to validate a purchase by comparing virtual dick size and just have fun. We get caught up in the industry politics and the internet culture and we forget why we play games. We play them to have fun. Let's just do that.

You're right the politics suck. It's about whatever is fun for you. If whatever system(s) you have see good games and enough games to keep the system turned on and you smiling that's what matters. If it doesn't, get rid of it or put it up until it does, and if it does, keep on truckin.
You know ultimately whatever Nintendo does, if they stay on their minimalist path, perhaps it will be just fine as they can always cater to the kid+family unity market. Sure they won't perhaps see a lot of repeat business as the kids age, but people are always having more of them and if the interest is sustained they're fine as they are.

Best post I've read in ages. Politics and cyber-libido have no place in my gaming life. Amen! The number one criteria for any game system should be, "Are you having fun?" not, "Is it the most technically powerful?" If you are having fun with the Xbox One, Fantastic! BogusMeatFactory for Admin!
I've been kind of burned out on forums and this place hasn't been an exception because of those points. It's really just the internet in general, but yeah.
