I have not played a modern sonic game since Sonic Heroes (fuck that game....seriously) and just picked up Sonic Generations through the Sega Humble Bundle. Installing now.

Oh Sonic Heroes, in some ways it seemed like a step in the right direction, less emphasis on cutscenes and sticking to straightforward platforming, but then it got coupled with an ill executed partner concept, lots of bugs, and awful levels.BogusMeatFactory wrote:I have not played a modern sonic game since Sonic Heroes (fuck that game....seriously) and just picked up Sonic Generations through the Sega Humble Bundle. 'course instead of fixing its problems and sticking to what the good steps were, Sega went on a nosedive backwards, lol.

I seriously can not tell you how many times I would be running through a level, have to stop and then somehow be jettisoned into the nether by my team somehow. Not only that, but falling through walls, floors and the horribly designed bosses made it even more frustrating. I have never played Sonic 06 but I seriously can not see it being any worse.AppleQueso wrote:

My rose tinted glasses says that Sonic Adventure 2 was my favorite 3D Sonic game. I had a blast with that game. Most of my time went towards the Chao. Having Sonic Advance connect to the GameCube to move the Chao and items back and forth was pretty dope back then (12 years ago?). I actually received the game along with the GBA game and the connector and guide as a gift for my birthday.
Ahh good times.
So yeah.

Nothing wrong with having nostalgia bump up the quality of an already decent game. Now...if you were to say that Awesome Possum Kicks Dr. Machino's Butt is better than Sonic 2, because of nostalgia...casterofdreams wrote:My rose tinted glasses says that Sonic Adventure 2 was my favorite 3D Sonic game. Ugh. I had fun playing Sonic Adventure (1) when I first got a Dreamcast. I had fun playing Sonic Adventure 2 when I first got a GCN. But I don't think I'd have much fun with those games if I played them now.

I don't have any of those items I stated above anymore but playing the Steam version of SA2 is still dope however the Chao system is just not the same for me without the GBA connectivity.
I think the Chao system did it for me. I had a couple of friends who were also heavy into it. Man I flipped out when I discovered the Tails Chao! All stats were S rank and didn't die!

SA2 is the only modern Sonic game I've finished. I guess it's alright by that measure. I did pick up that bundle and have heard good things about Generations, so I'll definitely give it a shot, along with Transformed.
I've also got Colors, which I should get back to at some point. Never been a huge Sonic fan, which doesn't help me a lot.

It also doesn't hurt, because the post-Genesis Sonic games are NOTHING like the original games. Sonic might as well be a completely different character.Sarge wrote:Never been a huge Sonic fan, which doesn't help me a lot.
