Lesbians and vampires got really tied up together in certain parts of Europe because books in some countries couldn't have lesbian sex scenes in them for a while, so they used the excuse that one was a vampire, or at least suggested it through vampire tropes, to get around it.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Last night, I watched the nearly two-and-a-half hour(!), R-rated cut of:

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013). I was not expecting much out of it, and while it dragged at times, I ended up laughing a lot. It was the perfect movie to watch while my wife and I folded laundry, and I thought it was a better "epic" comedy than It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

Anchorman 2 is definitely way too long.

Grand Budapest Hotel. It is standard Wes Anderson but with gorgeous sets and music. So the story is all over the place, but it is engaging the entire time through. This is the first Wes Anderson film since Rushmore that I actually enjoyed. It was also good to see Murray Abraham in a role that really showcased his depth as a storyteller. Because of this I looked at his most recent films and found The Mystery of Dante and am trying to get an English subbed copy.
To follow up Grand Budapest, we watched How to Train Your Dragon 2. Which I thought some of the world building in it was soso, but the overall story was a nice twist on the heros journey and the villain was just perfect. I did not realize that Djimon Hounsou was Drago and now I have another actor to follow.

Disagree 100% that it's a better "epic" than Mad Mad Mad. Agree it's okay if you are watching it while doing something more important, like say, folding laundry.

I enjoyed it the few times I've seen it. Also, is it just me, or was this his most violent production to date?fastbilly1 wrote:Grand Budapest Hotel. But are you folding laundry like a ninja or what?Luke wrote:Yup.TSTR wrote:Anchorman 2 is definitely way too long.

Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Most hilariously bad good movie scene ever?
Yup. Ninja laundry.

The Babadook
This is exactly the kind of movie that I like to find when doing my 31 days of horror films every October. It's creepy, makes spectacular use of shadow and sound, and wears a lot of its horror influences on its sleeve. More importantly, instead of relying on jump scares, it steadily builds the suspense while giving a moving backstory to the two protagonists(who also make several turns as antagonists at points). I loved this film, and I think more horror fans should go watch it as soon as possible.
