As I cleared Deathsmiles on a credit (for realz) tonight, for some odd reason I was thinking of Cygnus X-1 Book II by Rush, the part from the fourth section "The Battle Of Heart & Mind" -

As a disembodied spirit
I am dead and yet unborn
I have passed into Olympus
As was told tales ago
To the city of immortals
Marble white and purest gold

Doing that well in a shmup by Cave will do that to you I guess.

So I just listened to it again. It counts

They sat a while in silence
Then they turned at last to me
We will call you Cygnus
The god of balance you shall be!

Oh man, i am getting into Velvet Undeground more and more.
They song are fucking perfect, i don't have to concentrate on bass line or on guitar or something else to enjoy it, i just listen to the music as a whole.
I never had a heroin(and i never will - or i hope so at least ) and i don't like sadomasochism but man Heroin and Venus in Furs are so absorptive.
Sorry for my engrish :)

VU is pretty great. If you like them you should also check out some of Lou Reed's solo stuff - his greatest hits is worth grabbing and a good place to start, but I think I like "Transformer" as a whole better than any of the VU stuff at this point...

Heh. I didn't even know this existed until just looking it up, so I have no opinion.

I only like one Metallica album (Master of Puppets), and while much of their 80s output is passable, I pretty much think they entered the 90s as one of the more severely overrated bands of the era and left the 90s as one of the worst "big acts" in rock and roll history. I can't say I've had to endure anything they've done post-1998 or so (or whenever that "King Nothing" stuff was out) as mercifully that was the last time I hung out with friends who were "Metallica dudes".

I give it a shoot, thanks.

BTW : Is there anyone who thinks THAT Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is beast Beatles album( i would really like to discuss why) ? I see it all over internet and i just can't understand why, i listed to Rubber Sould and it's fantastic but i am not sure about Sgt. Pepper. Yes sure it has
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Lovely Rita and absolutely fantastic A day in the life but other song are hit or miss. :?

And sorry for my engrish :)

Yeah all that's pretty much spot on, you'll do well to spare yourself the post 90s stuff, as it veers from weak attempts at returning to their old style to outright incompetence, and it's all *worse* than the 90s output.

Metallica at this point is basically the single most washed up has-been rock/metal band on the planet.

and Lulu... well the only person I've ever seen say anything really positive about it only liked it 'cause they find trainwrecks particularly amusing.

I think there's a fair argument that can be made that Sgt. Pepper is the most eclectic sounding Beatles album in that it reflects the scope of their sound pretty well, which is part of the reason that so many people like it so much, I believe. It is also arguably their trippiest record and it was released around the kind of first post-Beatlemania era height of their popularity, so it was a juggernaut at release and did a lot to define the end of their time as a band and the albums to follow. My favorite Beatles album is easily the first proper follow-up album to Sgt. Pepper - The White Album. But, there really isn't a substandard record in their oeuvre and all of them are pretty well defensible as "the best one" based on various personal preferences...
