How bad is Daikatana?
is it unplayable?
Random Gaming Thoughts
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Hmm, I guess I never thought about it, but it appears that not all Wii games will warn you about low controller battery life. With the PS3 for example, it's the console itself that warns you. It seems like the Wii will only do it if the game is programmed to do it. I've had the Wii warn me of low battery before, but I guess it's only on a per game basis. I was just playing RE4 and the remote's battery started to wink out without any warning. Pain in the ass that is.

I'd ask Ack. He's been through it, or someone has. Of course, my exposure to it was back on Gametap.com and a much crappier laptop than I have now. I'd probably have to try it again.RCBH928 wrote:How bad is Daikatana?

I think I heard that the N64 version was better than the PC version, if only because the N64 couldn't handle the AI partners. So they just left the AI partners out altogether. (Except for cut scenes.)
The AI was apparently bad. Really really really bad.

Now im really piss off to the checkpoint save system in alice madness returns, ps3. It really is a beginners trap if you don't know that certain place is going to drop a wall behind you without ny kind of clue you can't go back and check other places for colectables and make's it nearly imposible to get 100% on your first playthrough.

AI is exceptionally bad. But when Ack played it, myself and a mutual friend were also playing it with him as the extra characters. It made the game alot more enjoyable. It was far from good but it wasnt bad. You could see where they were going with the design. Sadly Timesplitters is perfection of what they tried to do.the7k wrote:I think I heard that the N64 version was better than the PC version, if only because the N64 couldn't handle the AI partners. I have beaten it on the N64 and on the PC, both in co-op and single player.fastbilly1 wrote:AI is exceptionally bad. If you are playing co-op, then the PC release is the best choice: there are still some nasty bugs at times to encounter, particularly in a certain wizard tower in the medieval levels where you cannot load save games without the game either crashing or failing to trip certain required tags to allow you to progress. But by now most of the real problems that keep the player from progressing have been taken care of, along with a lot of the visual bugs that plagued the game.
That said, the game still has some huge issues to overcome: the AI partners are absolutely terrible, and the game throws some of its worst issues with bad weapon and level design at you immediately. The first world is hideous and bland, though things start to pick up once you begin traveling through time. Good luck making it that far though, as the AI will more than likely get stuck on a ladder, or a ramp, or on an enemy that will then kill it. Eventually I found it was best just to toggle on God mode for the AI partners and leave them at the start of the level while I cleared it all out.
The N64 version is a condensed version of Daikatana that removes both the Daikatana as a weapon and the AI partners. While it still starts poorly, I believe a few levels have been cut down too, so you get to the good stuff much faster. It's not a great game, there were some cool ideas in Daikatana, and most of them shine through on the N64. If you plan to play the game in single player and don't mind a controller, this port is probably a better choice.
Also, turn off the stupid save crystal system.

In RE4, I'm up to the part just after you defeat the guy in the prison with his eyes stitched shut. That large room, where there's tons of enemies swarming you. I think I've come up with a good strategy. If I make a mad dash for that back room I can stash Ashley in the corner and use the door as a choke point. Thing is I'm super low on equipment and I'm not really sure what I should do. I just don't have enough ammo to defeat all the enemies, I have no grenades and only a single health restore. Should I backtrack in hopes of stocking up? If I could make it back to the merchant dude I could probably upgrade the shotgun... if I can find ammo for it is another story. I think I'm gonna backtrack.

First, have you been going for only head and knee shots?Ziggy587 wrote:In RE4, I'm up to the part just after you defeat the guy in the prison with his eyes stitched shut. And second, have you considered using the choke point for melee combat? The knife isn't as powerful as a shotgun, no, but if you're fast, you can do some damage as the enemies try to come in the door. And there is always the various wrestling maneuvers that Leon does.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
First of all some enemies respawn at the entrance of the castle if you decide to backtrap, been there. An for the large room with ton's of enemies that the strategy i always use, maybe not the fastest but with that you can take the enemies in smaller groups.Ziggy587 wrote:In RE4, I'm up to the part just after you defeat the guy in the prison with his eyes stitched shut. Like Ack said, shoot the heads and knees, this will allow you to use the diferent melee attacks that leon can do, and when the enemies are on the floor use the knife is a great way to keep ammo. If you end up backtracking buy more power to your guns, keep in mind that each time you upgrade the ammo capacity it will fill the ammo on the weapon.
If you feel risky and decide to stay in the open shoot the snipers first and then deal with the guys with shields.
