Open Source Mugen and Donations

Post by thedarkmaster »

Hallo everyone, I'm sure all of you know what's MUGEN, the completely customizable 2D fighting engine. Well, there's a project out there, a very interesting one, willing to create an Open Source version of MUGEN. As of now, Mugen is downloadable but using it is technically illegal, since elecbyte is dead and it didn't release any other license for its use. Plus, Mugen cannot become any more advanced than how it is now. An Open Source Mugen would mean a new and more advanced 2D engine, with better effects, game modes and with a future. Open Sourcing it means it can be improved from time to time by anyone joining the project. It means you can modify it yourself if you can code, and it also means it will be forever totally free and legal to use.

This project of course aims to be COMPLETELY compatible with any Stage, Character, etc. already available in the net. So it is very important if you ever cared about MUGEN or even if you never heard about it but are interested in its potential and future. More informations on this page:

http://mugenportal.com/index.php?option ... &Itemid=48

They are looking for coders or money. With donations (even 1 euro a person will be OK) they will be able to create it even without a volunteer coder. There are sites out there such as rentacoder dot com where you can pay someone to create the software you need. And with 500$ it is granted the we'll have an Open Source Mugen. Now, the only attempt in this direction, previously, has been started by a guy later changing his mind and creating a closed source proprietary Mugen alternative called Shugendo. It is ages since this started and yet it is not comparable to the original Mugen.. and it is not Crossplatform either yet. Now, an Open Source Mugen will be a completely new and different thing compared to a proprietary software. Please visit the link and donate! I don't know if anyone cares about Mugen anymore, but I do, and I'm astonished no one is donating... I just found about this project yesterday but am very inetrested, since I tested rentacoder myself and I know how well it works and how fast the developers are in releasing something when they are paid...

Be aware, please, that this post reads a lot like an advertisement or solicitation. While we generally welcome information like this, it would have been nice if you'd become a member of the forum community and posted a few messages before posting this. Having your first post be essentially a solicitation will probably not endear you to the community.

That said, all new non-spambot members are welcome on the forums so long as they abide by the rules and play nicely with others (except Mozgus and I; we're disagreeable chaps).

I look forward to future posts from you which don't read like advertisements.

I'm sorry man, I'm not even related with that group, it's just that I've always wanted something like that to happen and since it is now happening, I indeed looked for a forum like this to see if I can find a certain number of Mugen fans or potential fans. So, if you wish, please delete my message, I'll understand. just know that I'm no bot and I'm just trying to get people's interest into something I'm sure would really be a great thing if released.. that's all.

My preference would be that you stick around, make friends, become a part of our community and I leave your post alone as-is. I think it's interesting information. I just think as a first post it raises some questions. That and it's not a good idea to join forums just to spread the word. If you're enthusiastic about Mugen, talk to the forum owner, Racketboy, and see if he needs an article to introduce retro gamers to Mugen. Then it would be sanctioned, more publicized, and we'd get our hooks into another contributor :)

I also thought the post read like an ad, but the topic interested me so I continued.

So, I hope that you do stick around and become part of the community and look around, because just recently one or two posts below this one I asked about MUGEN and was interested in some information.
Stick around and check out other treads, because stuff like this is interesting if not presented as your first post (as marurum said)

Oh, and welcome.

Great all,

I wanted to say ... THANK YOU VERY MUCH @thedarkmaster!

I am the person and owner of mugenportal.com and also the guy who started the opensourcemugen project!

I am very happy for what you do thedarkmaster. You give me hope and you wont let me down so i find your article on this forum.

I changed the project into ALL operating systems (cross platform) and i changed the donation update on my website (mugenportal.com).

If the donations are going good, we can hire someone on RAC and in March 2009 we will give free the first Alpha.

We need:

- Programmers / Developers
- Graphical designers / Sprite creators
- Webdesigners / Webdevlopers (to change the look of mugenportal.com)
- Donators (if you trust me or to see further devlopment)

Again .. THANKS!

If you have any questions, demands ... feel free to contact me!

MUGEN lovers should understand what this is all about!

See the difference between me and the guy who posted this. I posted my melty blood thing because.. its a kick ass game, and everyone knows about it, and if they did, they'd certainly play it, and made it easy for other to get it if they so chose.

This person came in talking about money and making donations.. XP
