In that same vein of thinking, real gamers should really also be buying games at release since some of the trophies are tied to online stuff.
No one is a real gamer, until they have drinks with Dungeon of Dreadmor development team:
Sewer Brew - Meet somebody from Gaslamp Games and consume Alcholic Beverages in their presence.
Do you remember the Kickstarter Contributor achievement on Mercenary Kings? It was originally only unlockable if you donated at least $60 to the development of the game. The amount of hate that generated for Tribute Games caused them to go back and add in content in the game itself where you could get the achievement.

And then there is the Deadshot achievement in Dungeons of Dredmor. The achievement is hidden now, but originally it was for having gotten through the Deadshot skill tree. Unfortunately the Deadshot tree was removed from the game about a year after release. You can technically still get the achievement, but it requires you edit a game file to reactivate the tree.

Make your own achievements.

Not too much for a game telling me "Yay! You did it!".

Unlockables, however...pretty cool stuff. Annoying and frustrating, but pretty cool.
